AmiBlitz is based on the Blitz Basic source.

Yeah im not really getting into anything else untill im happy with basic Blitz 2
I wonder with source how hard it would be to change the syntax to amos. |

Ok thanks - To me Blitz just looks like a rip of Amos and I would think the authors knew that so could be intresting change the syntax to Amos

Well, once you're happy with Blitz 2, AmiBlitz has many benefits (better editor, excellent include files bundled, inline PPC assembly) but also a number of drawbacks (FPU requirements, OS2+ etc.) if you wanted to move on. It depends on what you're running it on and what your target machine is, but other than better features added, the actual language and usage is the same between Blitz and AmiBlitz. You can have both installed if you need it too, just install them in separate folders and swap over your Blitz2: and Blitzlibs: assignments with a script or something. I have Blitz 2.1, Blitz 2.1 with the Ultimate CD, Amiblitz 2 and Amiblitz 3 all installed and usable.
As for being a rip-off of AMOS, well they're both BASIC and both have libraries of commands orientated towards the Amiga hardware so there's not really much scope for ending up with totally different syntax. They both have their strengths and weaknesses though, and once you get into it and go beyond the hardware access syntax they're very different. Complete, proper OS support is one major difference for example, and one of the main reasons I use Blitz over AMOS. |
