GFA Basic

Ok, here is another request. I found version 3.041 and 3.52 both in English. Maybe someone knows where to find ...

GFA Basic

in German language? Different releases are welcome.

Best regards,
Marcy

A hidden message by the programmer of a well known commercial game:

Quote:
Do you know the game?

Probably the "3.15D" bit is a indication, that german version exists.

I'm looking for GFABASIC 3.52E, but no luck so far. Any chance someone uploaded it somewhere?

I downloaded GfaBasic-3.52-English.zip just now, but its actually not the English version. Start the editor and go to direct mode and enter ERROR 100, it states 3.52 D (German).

hrm, I can see some non-english messages too - lazy translators? cannot say. I once saved this version and called the folder english version.
pulldown menu and gui got english commands, so i was thinking it's the english version

Its a bit strange as all the error messages are in German. The compiler and linker also contain "D" in the version information and German error messages.

There was also French versions with "F" at some point.

indeed, strange, it's somehow mixed version. the more important thing, it's the compiler on one of the disks.
i was looking again, but these in the zone are the latest i have or can find. maybe someone else, sooner or later

I was toying with the idea of fixing the major bugs, but I wanted to start with the last known English version. The amiga version is a direct port of the ST version, the only changes are hardware access. For example if you load the editor and enter the line 'INLINE ard%,-8' it will crash instantly when you press return. Do the same on the ST, same result. I say toying with the idea, because it would really be a huge task and I don't know if its worth the effort. If GFABASIC was made stable and ran on 040/060 machines would anyone use it?

nice projects, but i fear you wont see hundred of votes for such a patch here. once uploaded on aminet, there will be some downloads for sure
there are patches for amigabasic and metacomco ABasiC - i'm confident your work will be appreciated as well

oops, how about a Mac version of GFA basic? I know that Omikron is available but outdated.
Don't know why but I always liked the GFA Basic editor, today there's too many features..

Although I have a Mac, that would not interest me and it would be even more work than fixing the amiga version. I have looked at omikron, at least the ST version and its very poorly designed. No standard library or linker and thus almost impossible to fix bugs in it. I did do a lot of work to get GFABASIC running on the FireBee Atari clone, but that was not a port, as the CPU is similar, it was mostly changing the way some things are done.
