Chaos Engine 2, AGA vs. OCS/ECS?

Which version of Chaos Engine 2 is better, AGA or OCS/ECS?

I am planning to play it once I finish Chaos Engine 1, and I want to play the better version.

I am asking because when it comes to Chaos Engine 1, I personally prefer OCS miles over AGA. AGA support seemed slapped on and ruined the mood of the gfx IMO.

Judging from the screenshots on HOL, Chaos Engine 2 also seems to look better on ECS/OCS. It looks like it was developed for ECS/OCS and then AGA was added later. For example, there are status indicators inbetween the two screens, and the map is not broken up by a black line in the ECS/OCS version. It seems more complete...

Neither? Don't expect too much from CE2 gameplay wise, but for the graphics I'd say both are equally fugly

CE 2 have atmopshere and playability of PD game. You can think that someone stole some graphics to his AMOS game. It's not bad game but...

Neither. Play and enjoy CE and leave it at that. There is no sequel.

Chaos Engine 2 is one of the very underpreciated game. You shouldn't feel it as a sequel to awesome first part. It is an independent game, only with characters from its prequel. It is not a game for anyone, not a mainstream game. If you get into it, you will like it. But of course, the first part will always have ten times more fans.

Take BB, the name, the characters and the other remains of CE from the game and we might discuss it not being a total abomination Predseda

But i still finished it!

I'm a bit surprised the Bitmap Bros didn't re-use and enchance/expand the formula from Chaos Engine I.

I totally agree with you. I have the same view and I like CE2. Maybe not equally to stunning CE but still CE2 is a nice game if you just forget that it is a sequel.

Maybe they decided that sequel does not have to be in the same mood or genre as the first part? I also wish that CE2 had been more like CE but with new levels, riddles and ideas but maybe BB didn't want that because they had thought this would have been just an enhanced version or data disk.

Most of the guys that made Chaos Engine weren't at all or only partially involved in making 'part 2'. I agree that most of the strong dislike for this game is based on the fact that it can't stand up to Chaos Engine... at all. Like I said : If they had used another name and used a somewhat decent colour palette, the game could stand on its own, but as it is, it just seems like someone tried to make some bucks from recycling BB fame...

Although, in principle, CE2 is a completely different game to the original, I think it's equally good for what it is to the first one once someone spends some time to actually play and understand it. Especially if the human player chooses a slow character and picks a faster one as the CPU antagonist (that's if you don't have a friend to challenge) it is a brilliant game on its own. No, really!

@vulture

Exactly. Playing CE2 you have to forget that there is something like CE. Comparing these two titles is futile.

For my the colors of Chaos Engine 2 is absolutly great ! So "rainbow" collors in original version. The pictures with color modification is good for game with darker atmosphere but Chaos Engine 2 is different from Chaos Engine 1, both games is great but Chaos Engine 2 is little funy and color is good for this style, in my opinion Chaos Engine 2 is fantastic as is untouched original and AGA better than ECS/OCS !
