A1000 68020

Hi All,

I cracked open my A1000 last night to fit a Neuroth 68020 into it. The card was previously working without issue in my A2000, but in the A1000 the machine was totally dead, no grey/white/colour screen, no startup sound, nothing. This was the case with the card jumpered for 68020 and in fall-back 68000 mode.

I've since plugged the 68k back into it's socket and the A1000 is it's usual working self (phew!).

I thought all A500/A2000 68k socket accelerators would work in an A1000, is this not actually the case? Are there other things I need to do make an A500 card work in an A1000?

Cheers.

Most likely you'll have to have kickstart in ROM if you don't already. No accelerators that I recall worked with the soft kickstart disk ROMs/process...

Yep, but made a bit easier by YouTube vids like this one. The guy explaining the hack is an Aussie to boot!

The alternative to doing a hack is finding something like a Kwikstart or Rejuvenator board. Almost impossible to find in this day and age unless you get lucky and find an A1000 which has one in it already. That's how I found mine, but that was 15-20 years ago now.

multi kickstart boards are available on aminet, purchased one and installed in one of my a1000s and works great. switch between two different kickstarts via boot / key presses.

That's a really handy link, cheers!

since this goes on the 68k socket, and my intended accelerator board also uses the 68k socket, I assume I would do the mod, then plug the accel into it (instead of the 68k?).

I'm getting quite a tower of boards off the 68k socket now, any suggestions for fitting it in around the floppy drive? (other than installing a Gotek?)
