This one. But the same user promised posting updates "before christmas 2012", "soon in january 2013" and "within ONE minute on 18.04.2013 14:28". Well... there were no updates. Just an "it's not dead". |

Site hasn't been updated since January 2013...
Can we call this incredibly promising piece of hardware....dead? Seems to me like all of these massively encouraging projects (NatAmi, CloneA, this PPC board) all seem to go suddenly silent, and I think it's because the designers ran into some sort of major showstopper and couldn't just say so because of the anticipation we all (me included) have for a hint of new life for our favorite retro computer. |

It's a shame with failed projects organisers usually can't be bothered logging into their own website and give a brief update that the project is now dead.

The funny thing is that there's a fully assembled UltimatePPC in the pics - it's a bit sad to think that those are just fancy doorstoppers

Anyone to remember the discussion about using QoriQ over G4/5? Different FPU with incompatible instruction set. And not only 68060 are hard to come by, 68040 in mint condition (not salvaged) at a reasonable price isn't in stock in numbers. Finally, total cost of production would raise average sales price upto 1000 - 1200 €. While there might be still some unshaken customers around those two guys had to pay bills before, and i don't see their investment paying off at all, not to talk about some cuts for them.
Afair they planned to put some VGA and connectivity on it. Would require some good coders to do the drivers job. |

the difference being that afaik from trusty source that those natami boards in existence actually work.
sorry to say, the ultimateppc project was doomed from the start, at least in the shape we know of. the incompatible cpu, the low chance that any of appropriate solutions like mos or os4 would be adopted to it, the performance that would still be inferior to available standalone os4 and mos systems and so on.. all in all i think it is fortunate that no more effort has been put into it. amiga accelerators are better based on fpga or 68k emulation on another fast and cheap cpu, ive heard of mips being proposed by an experienced amiga hw designer. |

I'm just throwing out some speculation here but I wonder if they went through all the prototyping and building of first-revision hardware then realized the PPC CPUs they'd purchased weren't OS4 compatible, and so abandoned the whole project.
It seems like they put a lot of time and effort into designing the cards - at least, to look at them they visually appear to be well-designed...so I wonder why they didn't even bother saying "Hey, we've stopped because of the following issues..." Oh well, nothing any different from 99% of what's gone on in Amiga-land since 1993 or so. |

Yes it was one of the MorphOS team Piru that pointed this out when the prototype was shown, so the developers discussed some possible workarounds before conceding it would need a completely new CPU instead. My guess is this mistake was so costly that they would have been basically starting from scratch so decided it wasn't worth the effort. Are maybe work continues behind the scenes, either way terrible communication. Last edited by Akiko; 15 June 2014 at 20:14. |

Why not releasing the crippled or partly populated version without PPC, but at least with 040 and 128M of RAM? Still would have its market IMO.

I tend to agree with this, moreso when you factor in all the other functions they crammed onto the board. I think they had network, USB, and RTG graphics on the darn thing. I would have loved to have put one of those in my 3000 when I still had it, with or without the PPC. I'd have settled for an 060, too.

040? There is absolutely NO point bothering with anything less than an 060 which is considerably faster than the currently available accelerators.

I completely agree, for me its 060 or nothing.
To enjoy 68k software from the last 10+ years (demos, PC game ports etc) you need an 060. |

The market for 3000/4000 is too small to run a batch of crippled cards while costs are sky rocketing. At some point you have to made a decision, theirs was to stop it, because they were aiming at PPC not at lousy memory extension. Sad though. |

On the "Amiga: 30 years" facebook page you can read:
"Remember the UltimatePPC? Nay-sayers said is was dead, some even said is was vapour. Now, come to Amiga: 30 Years and be proven wrong. Talk to the developers, look at the card, touch it, smell it. It's real and it's there. Find out about the status, how far they have come, what the plans are and what has changed and why. It doesn't get more real than this! http://www.ultimateppc.nl/" |
