Smile The Green Amiga Alien's guide

http://jambo.abime.net/howto.php

I thought I would start a new thread for my guides to get comments, corrections and tell you of any updates I made.

When I have more free time and in the mood (or bored ) I will be adding a chapter 10 to the guide, which will be about setting up WHDLoad step-by-step. (I will probably start on it after New Years day)

I have put my guides in PDF Format in the zone, but then realised they have a few typos. They will stay as they are until I done chapter 10.

I hope I posted this in the right forum, if not feel free to move it.

Changes to make so far. (posted it here so I don't misplace them.)

Quote:
Requirements

Replace this dead link:
http://www.amiganet.org/NewIcons/
With this link:
http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/util/wb/NewIcons46.lha

Add WHDLoad from http://download.abime.net/whdload/WHDLoad_usr.lha

============================================================
Chapter 1 - Setting up and Configuring WinUAE

Replace all gui screen captures with the ones I sent.

Step 24
N.B. Use 4 MB one each setting if you only have from 64MB to 128MB of system RAM in you PC.
Should be Use 4 MB on each setting

============================================================
Chapter 2 - Formatting the HD and Installing Workbench 3.1

Change first floppy GUI screen capture with the one sent.

10. When finished the DH0:NDOS will change to System. (Congratulations you now have a 20MB formatted hard disk)
Delete the 20MB

Add to step 23:
If it does not continue automatically then Click the ‘Proceed’ button.

Delete a return/enter space between 30 –31

Change “When the screen to the right shows” to “When the screen below shows” on step 32

Delete “20 MB” from step 34.

============================================================
Chapter 4 - How to use Lha.run to decompress your files using Shell (aka CLI, AmigaDos)

After step 9 add:
N.B. Skip step 9 if you are:
  • Going to use magic workbench icons.
  • Keeping the standard icons.
  • Going to install Scalos and you want to manually copy each newicons by hand.
============================================================
Chapter 4b - Download and set-up Installer for the next chapter.

Step 4 “The type in:” change to “Then type in:”

Add at the end.

N.B. The 0 on DF0: is a number not the letter O
============================================================
Chapter 5 - How to Install Picasso96

Step 39 add:
Or in newer versions of WinUAE press CTRL + LEFT WINDOW + RIGHT WINDOW keys.

Maybe an idea to split onto 2 pages?

============================================================
Chapter 6 - How to Install MUI

Add will to:
‘In this chapter we will Install and set-up MUI.‘

In step 13 add:
Or in newer versions of WinUAE press CTRL + LEFT WINDOW + RIGHT WINDOW keys.

============================================================
Chapter 7 - How to Install Magic Workbench Icons

In step 15 add:
Or in newer versions of WinUAE press CTRL + LEFT WINDOW + RIGHT WINDOW keys.

============================================================
Chapter 8 - Method 1 - Installing NewIcons with ClassAct

In step 9 and step 33 add:
Or in newer versions of WinUAE press CTRL + LEFT WINDOW + RIGHT WINDOW keys.

============================================================
Chapter 8 - Method 2 - Installing Iconographics package and Installing NewIcons without using ClassAct

Introduction:-
Change this dead link http://www.amiganet.org/NewIcons/icons.html
To this link http://uk.aminet.net/aminetbin/find?newicons

Change step 18 to:
18. All you do now is download NewIcon packages for free from Aminet web site: http://uk.aminet.net/aminetbin/find?newicons, then decompress with lha using Shell. Once decompressed, go to that directory and drag and drop a newicon over Copy and drag and drop the old icon you want to change over Paste. Do this for each Icon.

============================================================
Chapter 9 - Installing Scalos Workbench replacement

In step 15 add:
Or in newer versions of WinUAE press CTRL + LEFT WINDOW + RIGHT WINDOW keys.
When you start looking for fixes to make, how come it's becomes a bigger task than I first thought it would be.

Paul!

I'll make the list of changes today, and add links to pdf downloads for the files.

Also I'll try to do an interface for you today so you can make any changes you require.

With all the HTML and stuff thats in this guide (my fault) its an absoulte bitch to edit via phpMyAdmin (so it'll be even worse on something I've made!).

I'm going to strip as much html from it as I can from it today, making it nicer to edit online!
