Beyond my scope chaps, sorry, and I get the distinct impression Chris wants his life back now!
You'll just have to hope for some clever chappy with experience of doing this kinda thing to help you out! Or sacrifice a floppy! It's well worth it as there's SO much to see on the complete version, altho I've completely forgotten to ever ask Chris how many levels we managed to get, I guess we'll all figure that out the hard way, but I do know all the original music is in there, and that's gotta be heard, as it's infernally catchy! |

I'll happily play it from floppy, it's just a shame it won't run from HD. I'll give it a go tonight

I want to run it from my hard drive, the way I run all my other games from hard drive. I haven't used a floppy in many years.
My Amiga has had a Hard Drive since 1989. I have a bazillion games on it. |

If you check backwards through a few of these messages it's on The Zone: http://eab.abime.net/zone.php , and a separate server, available for download by all, and emulators seem to accept it fine, but please feel free to change it to work direct from the internal hardrive and re-issue it as such if you wish!
Ah, just had it pointed out to me the difference tween source code and compiled, soz, my ignorance showing there, nope, I don't have the source code, sorry! But surely, all original games for the Amiga came on floppies atuned to work in DF0, so how come all those work on folks' hardrives? Can they be backwards engineered in some way? Cheers very much Gizmo and everyone, sorry it took so long and sorry for the DF0 mistake, we've never done this before! I'll ask Chris about that last point, see what he says.

DF0 HARDCODED in the code. Yes, this freaking DOES exist, especially with very old games! (1985/86) Some would not even bother to boot from DF1 - stupid idea! |

Yep, that's what I think too, especially as I ran it from HD but unintentionally left the floppy in the drive and it loaded all the data from floppy...

Chris says:- "I kind of figured that the DF0 floppy version was going to be a problem, it's just the way it was written at the time, hard drives not being as common as they are now. I'm sure I can convert it, but it's quite a job and I was concentrating on just getting it out there first. Anyway, I'll set to it when I return from foreign lands."
So there you go, it will be resolved in time, meanwhile all real Amiga users, I'm afraid you'll all just have to cope as best you can with having to use a floppy! |

@Wilfy
Many thanks to you and Chris for going to the lengths you have to release the full version of this game to the Amiga community Hopefully this will inspire a few more dedicated souls like yourselves to try and preserve the legacy of their Amiga coding days, whether it be unreleased PD, shareware or commercial Amiga games. Well done! |

Yeah, cheers Wilf, good to have the full version. Question: the in-game level music is completely different and rather more funky than both the five-level demo and the play-tester version I still have on floppy, is this a new Nodder tune?

Hi all,
If you want to run Electrek from a Hard disk, please do the following (you may cusotmize for your own setup): 1. Create directory "electrek_hd" in System volume. 2. Copy all files from the electrek disk / ADF to that folder.. 3. Inside system:electrek_hd create a file hd_run using memacs or other text editor. The script should contain the following commands: assign df0: dismount assign df0: system:electrek_hd intro elec When run, this will execute the game normally, as long as all the files are present in the specicified drawer. |
