Elsat E1208 ram expansion memory?
With A1200 I bought recently I also got blank Elsat E1208, no memory and no FPU. While I don't need FPU memory would be nice.
Thing is I don't know what type of memory it accepts. I know it's SIMM but there were two types. Older and slower FPM and newer EDO simm. Does it requires FPM, EDO or it doesn't matter? Second question is SIMM capacity. I know it can add 4 or 8MB to A1200, jumper selectable. But can bigger SIMM be inserted into it? I know that won't make it add more memory to A1200 but the thing is I dug out some of my old memory, two EDO 32MB SIMMs. Will they work or do I need exactly 8MB SIMM? |

stick to the size it can handle, say double sided 72 pin 8mb fpm or edo slowest 70ns-60ns simms or 4mb single sided simms slowest 70ns as above.
8 mb edo simms are very cheap. |

In case someone else wonders about this issue 32 MB simm didn't work, I plugged in 8MB one and it got recognized without problems. |

Elsat E1208 ram expansion memory
I don't know how to say this, I may say that I'm unfortunate because I had bought A1200 which got blank memory and FPU but I could also say that I am lucky because I am not alone who have this problem and have got into this forum. Well, reading your replies is a great help. Thanks!

The guy I bought my A1200 didn't knew what it's for and gave it to me to get rid of the clutter, it was also empty. Luckily it works . From what I've read FPU is not that important. Only few games use it (games like Doom I think), plus it would increase heat generation. I'm happy with only additional ram.

quake would be useless on a fpu on memory card anyway, you would have to play it in a space the size of a postage stamp at a very slow speed, like you say.
fpu's are useful for rendering programs and such maybe internet, normal games has no effect with a fpu. |

I have the same card in one of my Amigas only my card is little older, and it can be only expanded by 6 RAM. My card should really be very rare because there is no photo in the net. Last edited by Irek´72; 26 October 2013 at 13:18. |

Yup, quake probably, as it was "real" 3D while Doom was more of wolfenstein upgrade . And yes, not so much usefull for games, especially with vanilla 020 cpu, ie, plain A1200.
Only makes sense for applications that have a lot of calulations. @Irek´72 6MB? How did they come up with that value? I think module capacities were powers of two (2, 4, 8, 16 MB...), unless it does something like that jumper does and "clips" last 2 MB of 8 MB module. I installed 16GB CF card in my A1200 so I doubt I'll need PCMCIA port, at least for file transfer. I can put a lot of games on that 16GB . Maybe if down the road I try for some networking. But for now it's mostly for games. |

I can still remember if the jumper was set to 6Mb, my CD-ROM drive would not work. However, this issue has got many memory cards. |
