ReSource 6 manual?

Does the ReSource version 6 manual actually exist digitally?

When people have posted links to the app, it's always with the old manual.

The versions are drastically different but all I ever find in the Zone or elsewhere is the old one with the date 1991 and this one should be closer to 1994.

Thanks

I don't think there was an edition of the ReSource manual covering version 6 specifically. It's not that much different from version 5, so the tutorials etc. in the manual supplied with ReSource v5 and earlier still apply to version 6.

The ones I find seem to be the version 3 manual.

I'd gladly take a version 5 manual if it more closely matches the version 6 software.

Have you seen the PDF manual on bombjack.org? (Click Applications under the Amiga logo and scroll down.)

Yes, that's the version from 1991.

If you notice, you can't follow the directions exactly in v6.06, the menus have changed since that manual.

Maybe you should talk to bruceuncle, and then when you've got something upload it here for the rest of us?

Okay, I asked bruceuncle if he had such a thing. It's uploaded to the zone. If you like it, find out where he lives and if it's nearby buy him a beverage of his choice.

Thank you!

I'll check that out as soon as I get off work!

Did anyone manage to get in touch with PF or the author?

Yes. Puzzle Factory version was licensed and improved from the author. The author never had RTG or the fancy menus and so forth. But in theory, Puzzle Factory still owns the rights. The author cannot release his less user friendly yet improved version, because of this. Puzzle Factory dude died, and author does not or cannot contact the wife.

Author's improved version includes features like Rexx communication with a debugger the author has disassembled and upgraded, so you can debug and label in sync with his Resource.. in practice, it didn't work for me. No I cannot give you the improved version or his contact details because he inferred it was not what he wanted.

So therefore Resource is in legal limbo.

Anyone who wants an improved Resource should disassemble the PF version and improve it themselves. <--- not what the author said, but what I say. Bruceuncle over at the above linked forums has provided disassemblies from which he obtained all the text for the manual. Has not reassembled them, but perhaps it's possible.

I know someone sent me an RTG patch that I applied, but I can't remember what/where that patch is.
I had hoped it would be possible to encourage an updated version, but if it is stuck in limbo with PF then that is looking grim. Did the wife of the PF owner inherit the rights? Could there be any provisions for termination of the contract?

So sad. ReSource is one of the best investments I have ever made.

Get a cup and a teaspoon of tea leaves. Pour in hot water, stir. Drink the water, and read the tea leaves. What they will tell you is as much as anyone appears to know.

I don't know if this is a user error, but have you tried this:

Load executeable, turn on DCB option (so make sure it has data that can be expressed as a dcb statement), turn on data comments option.
After which the program is more or less dead to me. It responds to menus, but not keys.
