Detect KS version & boot appropriate Workbench?

I just registered here to ask this.

I want to set up a Startup Sequence that automatically detects which version of Kickstart is being used and then boots the appropriate version of a Workbench. I want to do this under WinUAE, but the procedure should be the same as for a real Amiga.

I know that this can be done because I used to have my A500 system configured this way. It had both Kickstart 1.3 and 2.0 and the SS would detect which one I was currently using. KS2.0 was the default and it would boot normally, but if it detected KS1.3, it would switch over to a special WB1.3 directory on the drive and boot from there.

Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly how to do this. I know you have to pass control to the other SS, which then needs to assign all the important directories to that sub-dir, but I don't remember how to detect the KS versions, or the logic you use to make it decide whether or not to boot a different WB version.

Can someone point me to a guide on how to do this, or post some examples?

Thank you, I'll give it a try.
