Help Adjusting Desktop Size/No Scrolling

Hello Everyone,

Here's a simple one I'm sure. I have installed the Full version of Classic WB on my real Amiga 1200 with a 1084 Amiga Monitor. The workbench screen forces me to scroll down to the bottom all the time to get to the Launch and Files Icons at the bottom left of the screen. How can I make it so I don't have to scroll? Thanks so much.

Sounds like you need to play around with your monitor settings under prefs + have a look at overscan (also under prefs). You must have your screen-size set higher than your resolution.

Look for screenmode and overscan in your harddrive prefs drawer.

Screenmode lets you set the resolution of the screen.

Overscan allows you to trim the display to suit your monitor.

Test them first and once your happy save your changes to use them from then onwards.

Hmmm, Yeah I tried that and NTSC High Res is the right setting for this monitor. The Overscan won't let me adjust the size at all either for text or grafix. I wonder if there's a way I can tell Scalos to put the "Launch" and "Files" icons up higher by default.

Hi cleland909.

I did warn you via pm that you will need to re-snapshot icons as the ClassicWB packs are set up for PAL resolutions, not the smaller NTSC:

Quote:
You may need to re-snapshot the icons after changing the screenmode from the default PAL -> NTSC as the screen resolution is smaller.
However, can't a monitor like a 1084 handle a PAL resolution? Have you tried that first? If not, then there are two methods you can use:

1) Re-position an individual icon, select it, right click then choose Position->Snapshot

OR

2) Re-Position all icons and windows as you like them, right click on the Workbench or window and choose Snapshot->All.

They're both there by default (PAL & NTSC).

So it has to work! Maybe he has to choose the right PAL res?

Thanks Bloodwych, All I had to do was "Snapshot" the way I wanted it. Sorry, you did mention that in the PM, but I didn't understand what it meant. This brings up another question though. I'm in the US, so why would I use a PAL setting? Wouldn't if flicker and be the wrong resolution? Is this why some games and demo's I run appear at half the screen and sometimes are cropped to not be able to read the top or bottom?
As always, thanks for the help. You guys are patient for a newbie!

It's ok - I sometimes take terms like snapshot for granted when I'm explaining things to people, forgetting that they may not know what I mean!

With the PAL/NTSC issue, PAL is a larger display area so it may be nicer to use on your 1084.

As for the issues you're having, you'll have to ask someone with an NTSC Amiga and WHDLoad because I'm not sure about those problems. You should be able to play games in either PAL or NTSC with that monitor I would have thought.

Yup, PAL gives me a little more screen real estate...I think I was confused with TV's. Monitors can adjust to the scan frequency. Thanks again for the help, I'm learning more!
