I totally agree with bippy. The last "real" Amiga was the 060. This PPC/Amiga One stuff is for freaks only.

Does this run on a regular A500 or A1200? thats how i see it when they say "for classic".
Otherwise i would love to try it on WinUAE if thats possible? |

If the phase 5 site is a semi-registered estimate of PPC boards ...using the average of polling figures ..it suguests the number of boards in circulation is at the VERY most 8x that figure based on a 14% turnout.
This psuedo release fails in that to the best of my informed knoledge there is an acute abscence of applications to make eiether it's purchase worthwhile or tempt non ppc owners to follow the route. IF hyperion had instead just offered RAFFLE tickets for a worthwhile prize then maybe this thread would be heading in a different direction...... However the recalling the number of regular REAL hardware users this board has & the number of hours per MONTH they claimed they used this hardware for, then I can only draw the conclusion it's content canot be expected to contain ANY postive or creative comments. Recalling the fact that over the last ten months this boards members have released considerably MORE useful compatable classic software than eiether Amiga inc or Hyperion have achieved in the last TEN YEARS !...suguests perhaps that members money would be better spent investing in our OWN projects as opposed to OS4 mythware |

I second that!
To be frank my 'interest' in OS4 is not an Amiga thing. To paraphrase previous comments: 'If it doesn't run a 68k chipset, it's not really an Amiga'. ( Real or emulated ) What I want is a good / light / bloat-free desktop OS for my current ( future ) hardware. An Amiga-like RTOS would be great - if it ran on x86. ( built-in classic emulation would be a nice bonus ) My frustration is OS4 could fit the bill... ...But then so will AROS ( when finished..? ). BeOS was nivana for me, but bombed. QNX could be great, but as QSSL no longer aim it at desktops... Amithlon is may main enviroment ( when the d*mn PC is working ) - But for the usual Amiga-like f*ck-up's it could have been 'all things to all men' by now. I'm ranting ( again ) because it's all so frustrating. I'm hungry, I can smell the Sunday roast, but the cook isn't giving me any!!! Woody57 as usual has made a good point v. well: There is a lot going on @ the EAB ( thank God! ). A question: Are we happy to continue as we are? ( Fine by me - it's a retro thing ) or Do we look to being more adventureous and pick a 'development project' or two, pool our resources behind it and take an active roll in things Amiga..? ( Also fine by me ) Last edited by Charlie; 25 October 2007 at 14:30. |

Another thing I have noticed is EAB users seem to talk far more sense about things, than most other boards I have been on |

That is an understatement. They were already late in 2000 when it was supposed to ship, the PC market had advanced so much that even with shinny new OS the amiga would had been hard pressed to keep just a slice of the market. Now it is so late that there will be zero comercial new software written for this "classic Amiga 4" because it is quite hopeless to support a platform that has less than a thousand active users. Any real future the amiga platform has is in hands of users that do things like uae, aros & minimig.
