Yamaha CRW4416SX

Hi all, I have one of these drives.
What is the cheapest way to connect it to my A1200?

TIA

4gb IDE HDD, WB3.0, KStart 3.1, Apollo 1240.

Buy a cable > 44 pin -> 44 pin -> 40 pin, get the cable outside the case and connect a PC PSU to the CDRW

Thanks RetroMan, will that work? the CDRW is SCSI (50 pin I think)

I also have IDE CDRW drives from my old PC can these be used in the way you describe?

hups, I thought this WAS an IDE Drive

So, the only way you can get THAT going is to buy a (not-very-cheap) SCSI Interface for your Apollo

Your IDE Drive can be connected in the above described way

@RetroMan:

C = compact disc
R = read
W = write
4 = 4x CD-R writing
4 = 4x CD-RW writing
16 = 16x reading
S = SCSI
X = external

Yamaha naming conventions :-)

No, you have to use a 44 - 44 - 40 cable

44 pin mainboard, 44 pin 2,5"HDD and 40 pin CDRW

Sorry, only know german shops ....

You could try a buffered IDE-Splitter. It's the better and easy choice to connect a CD Drive.

@DDNI

If you can get a SCSI controller for your accelerator, it might be worth it, since SCSI is faster and uses less resources. Furthermore, you can have the drives (harddrives and CD drives) mounted in a case beside the computer.

Anyway, the Acard adaptor you linked to works with Amiga, I use one with my A1200T, and use 3 of the UW models in my A4000T.

Seems like your prioruty is to use the 2.5" harddrive, so the above information will most likely be useless to you, but now you know

Yup, SCSI is faster, but NOT if you use an Apollo card, this is really a pain ...

Thanks to all for your advice, sadly my apollo doesnt have a scsi interface. It has the holes for one to be soldered on, but fitting one would be beyond me I think....

It looks like a buffered cable is going to be my best option. Unless a CF adaptor proves to be a better bet - can you mount ISO/BIN on amiga, either from HDD or from a CF card?

Only used one Apollo before, and that was before I changed to SCSI. Since I went SCSI it has been Phase 5 all the way :-)

@DDNI

You can mount iso files on Amiga fra harddrives, so CF should be possible as well. Look up Virtual CD on Aminet. IIRC it requieres OS3.5 or 3.9 though.
