If you want, I may show a pic of my own collection of Amiga Joys... You wouldn't be disppointed.

By the way, the Python is my fav joy, as long as we talk about the version without microswitches!

I can't figure out how you guys can call this joy "crap". are you serious about amiga gaming? I made more than one guy cry after a Kick Off 2 match using my python

Nostalgeek Thanks for this pic, I was reading and racking my brain for the name of it, to find a pic and then pow, just like seeing a picture of an old love. There it was...

And killergorilla/k2uphill, thanks for this one, (I think you really captured the essence of it):

This was my all time favourite. (Was it called Zipstick??)

And Quickshot II's (without microswitches) just sucked sooo bad.

Ah the good old "python"... Nothing like it.... although I'm not sure mine has "Microswitches"... oh wait we're not talking about that kind of "Joy" stick...

Back on topic and out of the gutter... found a candidate for shite joystick in the box with an Amiga I got last week:

Not the Python but an Apache1 (QS-131)

Dear god its awful and I can tell that without using it.

I think I (somehow) finished Wonderboy in Monsterland with this:

It belonged to my friend (as did the A500 I played it on) and he gave it to me a few years ago along with 3 other very crap joysticks with various afflictions. After pulling them all apart to see if I could salvage one, I binned 'em all.

My friend also has one or 2 of these:

Of course, he wouldn't give me even the one with the busted trigger.

So, tired and hungry for Cannon Fodder, I bought this on eBay:

It's called a Star Cursor.

I haven't found any evidence that these exist outside of Australia so for those of you who are elsewhere, it was apparently built by a coin-op manufacturer and is a very solid, fully-microswitched unit. Unfortunately mine came without the bottom suckers so I put some non-slip feet on it, but it still hurts my hand after playing for 10 minutes. Methinks it's time to look around for an alternative (or one that's only good for its suckers).

I liked the little StarTacs (that look like a ZipStick) when they were common - virtually unbreakable - and I had another friend with an Amstrad CPC6128 + Konix Speed Kings that I enjoyed using at the time, but the only ones I played with at much length are/were the ones I listed here plus ... the QS Python/Python II. I really liked them at the time but I wasn't doing anything more taxing than "Oh Mummy!" (think Pac Man in reverse). Nowadays, it'd never last a full round of Speedball II.

@DamienD

I have one of those right next to the python, and those are so uncomfortable after a few minutes of a game like lotus or kick off. Def worse than the python for that alone altho they are a bit more sturdy and accurate than non-microswitched pythons. Maybe ppl with calloused hands from performing a good hard days work will not have a problem tho. :P

I recently got a WICO command control joystick with 3 different grips and I have to say that it is a pretty good joystick. (Better than microswitched python? - not as comfortable mind you which is the python's strong point) I have 2 of these and the older one has with its leaf spring a problem in one direction (works fine but makes a loud click - which I opened to try to fix but only made click worse. so difficult to adjust).

Autofire is another plus that not all joysticks have that the python does.

I'm super jealous of anyone who had a choice of joysticks at all! I could only afford to keep my Atari joystick that ended up all squashed and mangled.

Luckily my Atari did come with a Zipstick type joystick that was good for a lefthander and I eventually got a Python that a friend lent me and I kept it after falling out with him (guilty)

But I couldn't really afford to buy one and my parents never let me near videogame retailers (poor me!)

Thats why I had a third-hand Atari and a second-rate joystick
