That is off course a great idea. But what really would be neat is a small blog - I do want to follow this project but does not have the resources to monitor the IRC-channel. And I don't think I'm alone regarding this matter.

Edit: found this site: http://www.apollo-core.com/
plenty of information there!

I read that Vampire 600 is incompatible with Indivision ECS. I wonder if it is going to be the same issue with Vampire 1200 and Indivision AGA...

By the time the V1200 comes out maybe you'll see AGA output from HDMI?

Holy Moly. Just saw the Vampire in an A600. WOW.

I only wish I hadn't seen it until the A1200 version was complete because now I want one. Haha! amazing work.

How will Vampire 1200 users get a Real Time Clock in their system? Will IC's RTC for the clock port be the only available option or could the Vampire board itself feature an RTC? (Or a clock port?)

Not the 1200 version, no. The A500 version is still in the experimental stages. The A1200 version won't be started until the A500/1000/2000 version is released.

The devs don't hang around in these forums that much. It's more likely you can get a scoop on Apollo IRC channel.
Here we can mostly speculate.
But the lack of news about the V1200 is most likely due to the focus on the V500. It makes sense for such a small team to focus on one product at a time.

Furthermore, it was mentioned elsewhere that they (mostly Majsta) were looking into ways to speed up assembly/production of cards. Only when they can speed up and automate the process will it be meaningful to talk about future products.
The V500 will be the real test to see if it can be done.

I'm afraid that until Vampire500 will be completed.
Manufacturers are drowning orders and A1200 / 3000/4000 versions
delay in many years because their development is not enough time.
I hope that I am wrong

Not sure they have been taking any pre orders for the V500 yet. Still working on that V600 back-log.
V1200 is at least planned and being designed.
The V3000/4000 don't exist yet.

Tthe speed increase in the 600 has me wondering what could be achieved for a Vampire 1200 board on a AGA machine.

If I understand the recent rumors right, the V1200 will use DDR3 memory, so more bandwidth. This is useful for high res screenmodes and general performance as it's using a unified memory architecture for graphics Mem and system RAM.
Not sure how much AGA helps here.

I agree - I think it comes down to the form factor you want and how much desk space you want to give up.

The a500 and a600 seem pretty much feature matched and largely subverts the original hardware. Until I see the specs for the a1200 Vampire I can only assume that it will be similar, but as mentioned above would probably have faster RAM and maybe core space for some other goodies such as an 68882 etc. However, not a lot of software is currently written that makes use of the '882 as my a3000 shows (mainly apps like XCAD etc.). It's obviously going to have to cap the surface mounted 68020 from a hardware perspective, so similar fitting to the a600 in that respect.

Therefore, it comes down to personal preference with an a600 running a Vampire being the most compact version, whereas an a500 vampire running in a a2000 case would achieve the same but take up most desk space. That's why I've pimped my a600 with 3.1 roms, 2MB chip and a CFHD as I'm on the a600 Vampire list However, I'm guessing an a500 version will produce the most overall demand due to the sheer available number of units sold in the 80s and 90s.

@MikkiDisco Regarding the 68882.. The FPU implementation will probably more like 040 FPU in the sense that it will not support all of the stuff the (very complex) 68882 does in hardware. Instead, a lot of those older instructions in use by the 882 will likely be trapped and dealt with with a modified fpu library.
As for "core space", AFAIK the V1200 will still use the Cyclone III and as I understand it, there's enough "room / logical elements" left in it for the FPU, meaning all V2 Vampires will be technically capable of upgrading to the full core.
What was discussed for the V1200 at some point was the possibility to have an expansion slot for future upgrades of the FPGA (say.. Arria 10).

If this has built in wi-fi like the rumored and then some internet browser with it's own versions of Flash, Java, Shockwave & HTML5 comes out on the AMIGA I can see people going back to AMIGA again for their web browsing.

Once normal AGA gets enabled on the old AMIGAs and super duper AGA gets enabled on the A1200 I can see those being big feats in technology. AGA and this new Super Duper AGA through a card in your AMIGA without having to change your motherboard chips with one of an A1200 or in super AGA's case a whole new format through just an expansion those have never been attempted let alone pulled off before so if Vampire could pull off what they wanted to do sooner rather than later I would have to give a big thumbs up even if you end up failing it.

Who's going to make that browser? Even the browsers on AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS leave a lot to be desired, and they run on much more powerful systems.
