ZX emu?

Whats the best zx specy emu for the pc?

I've seen there's a few about on the interwebs but wanted some suggestions/recommendations of what users on here use?

After getting my pc fully upto date with emulation for amiga, mame etc I wanted to get round to installing all my other previous owned machines (I had a +2 back in the day).

Any help appreciated!

The best ZX emulator is probably Spectaculator, but the recent versions aren't free anymore. You could try ZX Spin or EmuZWin.

I'm using Spectaculator on my old laptop, only few, very old games don't work. I remember also from 486 times some good ZX emulator for MS-DOS which can fit on single floppy disk with few games.

My suggestion : Play the Spectrum games you like on a CPC / C64emulator, when they're avalaible on these platforms.
I've loaded a few classic isometric action / exploration games on a speccy emulator and it was a bit of a disapointment because of the slowdowns and drab colors.

I agree, but emulation of the later 8-bit computers is a more comfortable experience IMHO. For one, there are more quality emulators to choose from and the Spectrum games catalog share numerous entries with virtually every computer made after it.

just my 2 cent.

Otherwise, Spectaculator gets my vote too.

those games are often vastly superior on the ZX.

Cybernoid C64 for example is barely playable thanks to its "so called" collision detection.

Even New Zealand Story in ZX monochrome plays better than all of it's 8-bit counterparts.

Isometric games are sometimes more colourful on the Amstrad yes, but there are only about 2-3 games on the ZX *and* C64 which I would ever prefer to play on the C64.

It's a matter of personal preference of course, but if someone is asking about ZX emulators, i dont think its very helpful to say "play the games on other machines" - the ZX is well covered for emulation on every system under the sun:

I always favoured Spin on the PC myself, but I usually play my ZX games on either ZXDS (since you can download games directly from the emulator) or Fuse on the Mac or PSP now.

Another option of course is to use an online emulator such as:

http://myspeccy.org/ (this one saves your scores)

or

http://www.zxspectrum.net/

almost every game on http://worldofspectrum.org can be played by visiting the game page and clicking the java icon.

e.g.

OK thanks for the help peeps. I use fuse on the psp and wii but will try a few of the suggestions out and see what I prefer.

Ah the good old days of monochrome gaming.
