Best C64 Emulator for PC ?
What is the best C64 Emulator for PC ?
I tried 'CCS64 V3.9.2' and it just made the PC grind to a halt I also tried 'WinVICE-2.4-x86' which is a little slow. |

WinVice and Micro64 are the best imo. Maybe Hoxs64 too but this one lacks a lot of features. Well if your PC is too slow then your out of luck. Modern emulators demands a lot of CPU power these days for accuracy.

I assume C64 forever is Vice anyway. I wouldn't recommend to buy it. You could try it set the SID to FastSID instead of ReSID in the options/settings. This saves some CPU performance.

Yes, I think it is vice. Easy to use, I personally can't be bothered setting these things up, it works straight out of the box.

It's a matter of taste. I never ever used any default settings in emulators. I need to tweak it for my needs. (resolutions, joyports, filter etc.). And with Gamebase 64 as frontend you don't need C64 Forever.

Each to their own I guess.
EDIT: Apparently you can try C64Forver for free. Quote:

WinVICE 2.4a from the Kryoflux website: http://kryoflux.com/?page=download
If you have a Kryoflux you can create g64 files complete with copy protection from your C64/C128/Plus4/C16/116 stream files (or other peoples stream files) using the dtc program and use them in WinVICE 2.4a. Plus, you can write those g64 files (or other peoples g64 files) back to real 5¼" disks using a suitable 5¼" drive and your Kryoflux |
