Cleaning A1200 Keyboard

I want to clean my A1200 keyboard but not looking forward to the tedious work of removing each key and spring, and putting it all back together. I read someone say amiga.org forums that it's ok/safe to put the keyboard in a dishwasher. Anyone know if this is true or have tried it. Dishwashers use very hot soapy water. I might try it if it definately would not damage anything but I'm not sure about it.

Heys there,

yep you can use the Dishwasher on hot wash if need, but you will need to remove (unscrew) the keyboard from the metal housing, and remove the keyboard matrix and caps-lock LED from this you can lump it into your Dishwasher.

I would suggest you are using good rinse aid as well as good salt (your dishes and glass ware deserve such!), but unless your keyboard is caked in grease or jam i wouldn't recommend any detergent.

then all should be good

... leave to air dry for a couple of days in a dry cool room and all should be good to re-assemble and use

Ahhh ok thanks for the info Zetr0... but 27 small screws attaching the metal housing ... sheesh! lol..

LOL its worth the end result, as with all good restoration projects... the more time in.... the better the results....

when i did a cdtv keyboard and a1200 keyboard conversion,.... there were a LOT of screwing and unscrewing.... and none of it in a good way

but the results are worth it.
