NovaCoder's new 1200, build-up in progress!
I'm planning on building a Jens special (TM) when I become rich and famous, for the final spec I'm thinking of the following wish list (desktop case):
1) ACA 1230/56 (got) 2) IdeFix Express (got) 3) A 16gb SATA SSD HD using a IDE to SATA kit (got) 4) Delfina Flipper 16bit AHI sound card (got) 5) A standard PSU or maybe I'll need a A1200 300W PSU (got) 6) Indivision AGA Mk2 (got) 7) PCMCIA used for wired LAN (got) Running ClassicWB OS 3.9 and patched silly of course Not sure what will be the best monitor to use for this setup, old school CRT or a new LCD? I'm thinking that some of the better LCD's might give me some 'free' image upscaling....anyone know if this is true? Thinking about ditching the floppy drive and mounting the Delfina there with the audio outputs going out of the blank and also mounting a IDE to CF adapter so I can use the floppy slot for something. I was also thinking about getting the RF modulator desoldered (waste of space) and mounting the Indivision's DVI output in the hole. Not sure where the hell to mount the SS HD or IDE express 4 way adapter though....it's going to get a bit cramped in there Anyway what do you guys think, should make for a nice fast & stable 1200? Given the huge amount of work that the ScummVM port has entailed, I think a few Paypal gifts to Novacoder would be appropriate!
Send me your email and I will send you £5. |

This sounds like a great little project
PM Prowler an ask what LCD TV he has, its a little Toshiba HD LCD TV and shows all the interlaced modes without flicker. So a nice 640x512 workbench via RGB Scart and its white so looks great alongside a miggy This will keep you happy until the new Indi AGA's come out... I was going to say a FastATA MkIII would be another option but it has issues fitting with the IndiAGA without Rom risers. I'm thinking of whipping the FDD out of my setup (I'm doing a PPC Desktop) and I'm going to mount a Voodoo Exhaust fan at the Floppy slot to draw out hot air For power, you can't go wrong with Amigakits ATX PSU, I use one and its powerd everything I've thrown at it, PPC/BVision, etc without any hacks to the motherboards. Do keep us updated with lots of pics Steve. |

Does it make any sense to have higher transfer speeds on the HD? But if you want something faster than a CF and cheaper than it (for that speed), I've just seen this: ItemKingfast consumer grade 2.5inch PATA SSDInterface 44PINS IDE/PATA (1.5Gbps)Nand flash type MLC Capacity16GBPerformance Max transfer speed 1.5Gbps (150MB/s) Max read transfer 70 MB/s Max write transfer 40 MB/s Electrical Power voltage 5V ±5% It costs only GBP 49,99 , the same that a Sandisk 16Gb one (with 30Mb/s), and it's IDE, 44 pins. What do you think? EDIT: I've made a thread at Amiga.org about it and it makes no sense to use any HD with higher speed than 30mb/s: http://amiga.org/forums/showthread.p...617#post599617 Last edited by Retrofan; 18 December 2010 at 01:24. |

Time for an update (will post pics later).
So far I've managed to get the following: A 1200 MB, Delfina Flipper, uprated PS. Picking up a desktop case + keyboard next month The MB will be sent off to AmigaKit for checking and a caps replacement service. Won't bother getting it running until I can get my hands on some fast-ram and get OS 3.9 going (2MB 1200's are not much fun!). |

Yep they are a bit big aren't they, don't even fit on my HD monitor
I'll try to make them a bit smaller. |

The APower PSU will be for sale in some weeks. I emailed the seller and he's told me:
"Hi, I hope to build more power supplies in 3-4 more weeks., i have found a source of 5 pin DIN connectors and i am waiting on them to arrive. The power supply is for desktop machines only, not towered ones. It does 7amp on 5v,1.5amps on +12v and .3amps on -12. it is enough to run a Blizzard ppc board w/bvision inside a 1200 case with indivision and such. When i have some built i will announce it on amiga.org. thanks, Mike" I want one!! Thanks for showing it, Novacoder But what's clear is that he has not an idea of the watts it has. That's why I was asking. BTW: If you keep with those photos I'll have to buy a larger flat screen... Keep them as they are EDIT: I wonder what the ones who installed a Pico PSU will thing of this... Apower
This highly interesting APOWER device is on sale on ebay eg.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=230565289473 I Will watch and await the next batches arrive and get one myself instead of trying to get my A1200 modded with a PICO PSU, this sounds easier, cheaper and better! |

Small update:
Accelerator card ordered Looks like a SATA SSD drive won't be an issue to connect or power so I've ordered some bits off eBay. I'm not sure exactly where to mount the SSD drive, I might try and mod the standard cradle to fit with the new Indivision. I'll have to wait till I get the Indivision installed before I can mount the Delfina. I'm currently considering adding an eSata output which I could then use it for an external HD or even an external DVD drive. For the monitor I've decided to go DVI to HDMI (using a simple cable adapter) and then using a decent LCD monitor which means I'll gain 'free' upscaling and it should also sync down to 50hz for smooth scrolling. It probably won't look as good as a CRT in some resolutions but I think it will be better overall and it will also take up a whole less space than a CRT monster Last edited by NovaCoder; 08 February 2011 at 02:50. |

Some new bits turned up the post today
A new Amiga accelerator in 2011.....who'd have thought it possible A box of bits (floppy drive, hd caddy and screws etc) from the nice Mr airey36. AmigaKit are currently replacing the MB's Caps so as soon as I get it back from them I'll start putting this baby together. Tracking down a IDE Express is proving difficult though |
