Completing an ADF collection VS 2009 TOSEC DATs
May I ask what DATs are you rebuilding your sets from ?
2009 TOSEC DATs miss at least one game from (much) older DATs, and there seem to be no connexion between those old dats and the new ones. The game I noticed was missing from latest DAT pack is Gordian's Tomb (May be I am wrong assuming some more ADFs are missing ). Quote:

I see, thanx... No regret in deleting that valiant v0.29 archive, then.
I have bookmarked a thread in which I was able to pick up explanations about that EXE format (which I never had heard of before). Now, I am wondering why a bunch of SPS's are included in an ADF labelled DAT ? Any clue ? |

It's not in a DAT actually but in an UG torrent which seem to correspond to that Public Domain DAT. Is it OK to speak freely about that stuff ? Else I'll PM you.

Grab the latest dats (http://www.tosecdev.org/index.php/downloads) and say where those files are. Then it's okay to talk in public. Torrents on UG aren't a valid source for any discussion.

I am interested in completing a collection of ADF'd games based on those 2 DATs :
Code:
Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-12-16_CM).dat Commodore Amiga - Games - Public Domain - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-09-01_CM).dat |

Huh? You were talking about SPS releases that are in an ADF dat. Just name them and I could have a look. Don't have an interest to download anything just to confirm if it matches your needs or not.

Never mind SPS releases, I think it was Save files and there are not listed in these two DATs. Clicking on the torrent (no need to dl it) would have provided a better picture, I don't know yet an easy way to list DAT content.
well, my brain started to work at its usual slow pace again, and I am guessing I will need "content" corresponding to these 3 other DATs : Code:
Commodore Amiga - Games - Public Domain - [EXE] (TOSEC-v2006-10-07_CM).dat Commodore Amiga - Games - Save Disks (TOSEC-v2009-09-01_CM).dat Commodore Amiga - Games - Unofficial Addons & Patches (TOSEC-v2009-09-01_CM).dat |

Hi there,
what do you mean with "DAT content"? Just the setnames, everything, ...? |

It's on UG actually. I ain't too sure about the first part of this torrent. As I said, other parts seem to make up for Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-12-16_CM).dat. Current downloads are pretty slow, I'll let you know if the scanner rejects too many of these files when it's finished.
Also, wanted to express my thankfulness to mai and the others for giving a major overhaul to this project. Some game sets were in a pitiful state, and something had to be done to sort out the non-reported vrii'd or altered bootblocks from a few disks from the old sets. |

Here's my report :
At first, I tried to rename the zip & adf files accordingly to the DATs, but it seems ClrMame Pro's scanner doesn't like accents either. So I simply replaced the ü with u and the é with e. About Virocop bad checksum, well I am not certain it is necessary to report this to the torrent's uploader on UG, but if you think it is, I'll do it. My conclusion : ü's & é's (well, accents) shouldn't be used in DATs at all. And by the way, the name of the naked lady from that Strip Poker game ought to be Desirée, not Desireé ! That would be nice if someone could tell me a bit about .EXE's background (where they were to be found, on which media were they spreaded...). |

This thread was about the new dat release and not about your personal disk/data collection. Guess there should be a thread split and you can continue with your questions about TOSEC.
Exe were spread on disks or BBS'. |

OK, I PM'd one of the GMs for this split to occur.
Meanwhile, I hope the two first rules of TOSEC aren't : "You do not talk about TOSEC !" What are the tools to make .EXE's. Are they in any way more efficient than say, .dms as a packing format ? Do they have anything to do with "DOS" ? Last edited by NewDeli; 01 June 2010 at 17:05. |

EXE = DOS executables, its not any Disk format like ADF, DMS, WRP and so on, its simple the whole game in one single part as Executable, that means the whole game loads to memory, then there is no need to reload any data from disk. Of course you can also put the EXE to a disk, make the disk bootable and create startup-sequence, your choice. |

Who took the decision to code these .EXE's ? Was it the author of said game or the spreader (BBS...) ?
Can it be assumed those games were ripped off from dev. HDs (that they never made it to actual floppies) ? Also, I suppose saving progress cannot be acomplished with this format. |

Thanx. Since these are DOS executables, could it be even remotely possible to play these games with a DOS emulator ?
Also, does that have any incidence on their degree of compatibility when run on beefed-up Amigas ? |
