Odd 3.1.4 hard disk issue - anyone else have it?

I have been using Amiga OS 3.9 for a long time on my trusty A4000 Desktop, with a big old 74 Gig SCSI and a 300 Gig SCSI connected to my Warp Engine accelerator. That has been working pretty well for months. I decided not to run the 3.9 > 3.1.4 "Upgrade" script that the guys created, but instead to do a fresh install.
HDToolbox in the Install disk sees my drives fine after I change the tooltype to use warpdrive.device - An I created a nice 4 Gig Workbench partition, and it installed fine on there. (On a side note, the OS 3.9 HDToolbox was awesome, the one with 3.1 and 3.1.4 stinks by comparison)
Now I create a new partition of any size on my drives. 1 Gig, 4 Gig, 60 Gigs - does not matter. Partitions fine, after a reboot shows up unformatted fine. As soon as I go to format it, and tell it "OK" for quick format I get a "Seek Failure" error and it does nothing to the drive. Hmmmm...
I tried both drives, same issue. No errors or issues partitioning it, not problems recognizing it. It just won't format anything from Workbench or the CLI.
Anyone else have this issue? Maybe it is a Warpdrive issue with OS 3.1.4?

Have you first followed all these steps to partition the drive?

1.Double click the "HDToolBox" icon (it is located in your
"Tools" drawer).

2.Select the device: It should be named "warpdrive.device"
and press the "Ok" button.

3.All the drives connected to warpdrive.device should
appear. Only select the one you are going to install.

4.Then click once on the 'Change Drive type' button.

5.Then click once on the 'Define new...' button.

6.Then Click once on 'Read configuration'.

7.Uncheck the 'supports reselection' option.

8.Exit the Define/Edit Drive Type window, by clicking twice
on the "Ok" button.

9.Now, again on the main HDToolBox window, click on the
"Partition Drive" button.

10.Now adjust partition sizes as desired. When finshied hit
the "Ok" button.

11.Click on the "Exit" and then the "Continue" buttons.

12.You will need to restart the system for the partitions
you have just made to show up on the Workbench.

13.Now the new partition(s) should appear on the desktop
as unformatted/uninitialized.

Thanks. It turns out that I needed to check "Direct SCSI" for this controller. Thomas Richter pointed that out to me on Amiga.org -you guys did a great job on this! It feels so fast!

I have some weird issue with large 94gig Hitachi drive on 3.1.4 as well.
Everything partitioned and formatted fine, installed 3.1.4 and used ACAMapRom to load the kickstart into memory, however, it takes ages to load into workbench, the hdd led flickers like it's loading, but it takes like a minute to load into workbench.
I made 9x10gb partitions but also tried 2 equal partitions with the same results.
As soon workbench has loaded, everything feels fast and snappy though.

Anyone?

Shouldn't you contact Hyperion for support on OS 3.1.4?

Some people have reported that loading from large partition with FFS and default block size (512) is very slow. Changed block size to 4K or 8/16K helped.

How large partitions are you using?

With the old FFS on 3.1 at least, just the mounting time of a partition of say 1GB takes quite a long time on a slow Amiga.

Think I measured somwhere around 15-20 seconds on an A600 from pressing "Boot With No Startup-Sequence" til getting a prompt. The time to mount was much more than the actual execution of whats in S:Startup-Sequence.

Can't imagine how it would scale well with a multi-gigabyte disk.

Change block size to 4096.
