Moonstone Load State failed (HALT2)

Latest WinUAE Version (3.50 64 Bit), Win 10 64 Bit

When i play Moonstone sometimes my save state after saving is corrupted. When i load it i, the game is showing less than 1 second and then i have a black screen and winuae stops with "HALT2".

When i have luck i save state and load it and all is normal.

In other games i don´t have these problems.

I play with 500+ ROM default settings (exept floppy 400%).

The save state is attached.
Screenshot too.

Thanks 4 your help.

Send a message via MSN to dlfrsilver
which ADF set ?

Floppy 400% is only good for file copy. Most games will break, you need to use 100% speed.

It is blitter write wrapping around and overwriting interrupt vectors.

Could you attach config file used to save it?

(Obviously this has nothing to do with floppy speed)

Thanks.

I know what goes wrong but I am not yet sure how to fix it (but it will be fixed in next beta): when saving non-immediate/non-cycle exact prefetch mode state when blitter is active: state is saved after blitter has finished but before CPU has advanced to next instruction: when restoring it, CPU restarts from BLTSIZE write, restarting blitter again.

Switching off "Wait for Blitter" should also fix it. (It does not fix already created statefiles)

No Problem. I don't unterstand the technical part. But it doesn't matter. I hope i helped you.

Things i don't understand:
1. Why only in moonstone?
2. Turning off blitter destroy other state files or other games to work
3. Why sometimes it work and sometimes not?

It needs multiple conditions to trigger:

- blit needs to use all available cycles (blitter nasty set and cycle sequence that uses all cycles)
- blit needs to be active when statefile is created (start of frame)
- waiting for blitter needs to be set
- immediate blitter or cycle-exact not enabled

http://www.winuae.net/files/b/winuae.7z now includes the fix if you want to test. (but usual warning: development version, unsupported things may happen)

There is no perfect answer. Current betas can have other issues but same statefile issue can happen with other games too (when using your config)

Only thing I can see from a very quick look is that it's advisable to tick "Cycle-exact (full)" from under "Chipset".

You should use this for the majority of A500 games.

Yeah, if your PC is fast enough (as in, not ancient), A500 cycle-exact mode is recommended.
