I know some weirdos on this site frequent Off Topic a lot and each to their own but...

I remember Off Topic being a great way to chat about stuff that, although not entirely related to any specific topic in the main forum, at least it was jokey and/or vaguely relevant to the whole purpose of EAB.

Unfortunately I think removing OT from the bulk of the site has turned it into something that personally I don't really want associated with EAB at all.

I'm sure some people will disagree but in my opinion OT is for chatting about stuff like buying a new Dreamcast, modding your xbox, downloading some new films, not about having sex with a transvestite and driving a hovercraft into a field of burning kittens.

I think OT needs bringing back into the main section of the forum and needs some decent moderation with some reasonable limits.

I am all for fun and games but this isn't trash talk, it's still EAB, and at the moment OT is tarnishing it. EAB deserves better. Oh and yes I am willing to be OT mod if you are asking

i disagree about OT getting back inside... scratch it, it's not that's outside, it's just not reported in the today/new posts.

if you admit in not checking the OT section already, being what it is, and say you would like to have it brought back in the rest of the board, you are practically stating you would like it to be something different in substance from what it is.

but you cannot stear that to your taste, being OT, de facto, defined by whatever it is but what is pertinent to Amiga.

there are mods that check it from time to time and the point is that being them not much interested into it, it goes sometime on with a the stupid shit you mention.

one could argue that hardly the mods have anyway the time to read every single post in the in topic sections already of the board. that's the reason why it was implemented the "report post" function, that, imho, worked very well since its start and in the last two days too.

what's else to say? the people using each part of the board are, per agreement, bound to moderate themselves what they post. that doesn't change with the OT being still hosted by EAB. i don't want to patronize anyone, but what i saw today was disgusting. i bet there are way better use to one's time.

is there need for a moderator in OT too? that borders the stupidity, imho. why one should decide to sign in on a specialistic (more or less) board and be berated in having to read everything that is not that particular stuff he signed on in first place?

the trash that was there yesterday, i'm not sure about the legality of that, even, was and is in general, trash that i do not want to see ever, and if the chance happen that someone has a so poor judgement to posting it, i prefer it does not appear, before being eventualy deleted, in the more read part of the board.

and, being the OT out of topic, i don't see the reason it should take more place in the board.

OT is absolute crap nowdays, it's not interesting, it's mindless drivel.

OT used to be part of the board, yes some stuff was mindless, but it was still vaguely relevant.

Nowdays it's utter drivel, (yes I said drivel again!) and it's got no place on an amiga forum.

It wasn't "all over every threads of the board".

It was kept to the OT section without being hidden so stupidly without even a search function.

OT is there to take certain topics of discussion "Off-Topic" not to promote people yapping about utter ball-sack.

OT used to be entertaining, funny and worth checking out.

What about leaving OT as the off the radar, get it all out of your system place that it is and creating a lightly moderated, non-Amiga related chit chat section in the main board? If you want to talk about buying a new Dreamcast, modding your xbox or downloading some new films, do so there and if you want to get crazy, do so in OT. I suppose Retrogaming General Discussion would have to be folded into the new section which might ruffle feathers.

P.S. Talk of burning kittens should be off-limits everywhere.

You're talking about OT Stupidity which is indeed over the top (I must admit that I also pushed it there sometimes...

), but still it's is moderated by at least bippy and Graham who check the 'stupid' threads quite regularly. If you look at the other sections there are threads about normal things (btw we have a fine movie discussion over there already

)
I also think there should be a cleaner (read less faggot infected

) part of OT with more subsections like 'OT Music', 'OT New Consoles' and 'OT New PC Stuff/Games'. OT Stupidity should be the 'trashcan' for all the weirdo already there and there should be a big warning sign like 'Enter at your own risk'

. Of course that doesn't mean that you can post everything there and some stuff that was recently in OT wasn't okay at all.
So let's restructure OT and get a 'normal'

mod for it, so more people can enjoy it.

If you want to read OT it´s just a click away.

Personally, I don´t want to read boring and stupid transvestite threads for example.
And if we want to talk about Dreamcast, Xbox, CPC and so on there still is the general discussion section.

EAB is much better without OT in the Today´s Posts!

I'd personally like the search function to work in OT, and I'd like to be able to completely ignore the stupidity bit, or at least get it toned down a bit. Seems that ever single post in OT is in stupidity nowdays, and there are far too many of them!

KG and THB, let me say i understand your points, and i for one would like levity in better taste, as this one goes, in much better taste.

but i espressed myself poorly, evidently.
if you close OT stupidity or OT as whole, which is one of the extreemes in this discussion, do you believe poor taste would go away?
i believe it would find a way all over. why?
well because the posts that started all of this discussion weren't made by a nutjob in the first place. not particularly.

in a community of more than 2 thousand people, it would still appear from time to time.
my point being that to steer taste of everybody to your own' is impossible. happily so.

so i see 2 or 3 solutions:

- close OT stupidity and don't mind about shit starting to appear eventually elsewhere.
- add a mod for that.
- leave it as it is.

i prefer the latter as it is the most elegant, even if not perfect, as we have seen.
failing that, if someone volounteers to be a mod, i will not object.

because yesterday i opened an innocent "post reported by The Cyber Druid" thread in the mod private section just after lunch and the attached pictures made me want to throw up.

moreover, it's a crap that people who don't partecipate in EAB as much as you, newbies etc, stumble in unwarranted crap like that. but that's not the point: as i said, i prefer it being isolated, as you say, than not.
