sierra resource.cfg language option

I've seen this in many sierra german "resource.cfg" games:

Code:

language=49

That starts the game in german default. But some of those games also can run the game in english. Except that we have to change it using "language" menu (and if you don't speak german, it may prove difficult to even know it exists)

So far, I found 2 games that can switch to english: Space Quest 3 and Leisure Suit Larry 3. Those 2 games also have MT32 midi music support when their (older?) english versions don't.

I've tried "language=48" but game starts in german no matter what. Any ideas?

Just a guess... the German country code is 49.

What if you try 44, which is the UK country code?

I just looked at both whdload versions. The english version has no language option at all in the cfg file. The De version does indeed have the line "language=49". What happens if you remove that line completely from the De install?

EDIT: just tried it myself and no difference

My guess is its because the actuall installer program is in german so thats how it installs the game. The is no option in the installer program to choose a language.
