Scroll Wheel with BENQ Optical Serial Mouse

I'm running OS 3.1 with ClassicWB installed (MUI) and just purchased a BENQ Serial Optical Boing Ball mouse with a scroll wheel. I am looking for a driver to make the wheel work. I tried free-wheel but it is apparently not for serial mice. I have not tried newmouse because it sounded old and bad. Any recommendations?

Freewheel isn't a mouse driver at all - what it does is listen for "NewMouse" style wheel events in the input stream and scrolls the nearest scrollbar.

I've never used NewMouse itself - I just had the PS/2 adapter driver generate Newmouse-compatible events - but try running both NewMouse and Freewheel together.

Well, seems I can't find newmouse anyway. The one on aminet is just a pointer.

I think NewMouse 1.2 might be what you're looking for.

Again, I've not tried it, so no guarantee that it will work with your particular mouse, but worth a try.

Am I right that this is the mouse you bought:
http://amigakit.amiga.store/catalog/...oducts_id=1259

The required driver can be downloaded from that page.

You need FreeWheel in addition anyway.
http://aminet.net/package/util/mouse/FreeWheel

It's not a serial mouse, though. It connects to the Amiga's joystick/mouse ports, not to the serial port.

Thanks Thomas, I never even noticed the driver download from Amigakit. That is indeed the mouse. I will give it a go this evening.

Yes, you are technically correct. What I should have said was "DB9 Mouse." It has been a long time and the DB9 was the same cable I used for my serial modems. Thanks for the re-clarification.

AmiKit driver no longer available

The AMikit link no longer works for the MX1000v1.0fw2.2.lha download and I stumbled across this thread whilst I was searching for an alternative link, any chance you could possibly post a link to the package?

EddCase thanks for posting the link. I recently bought the Amigakit mouse and noticed the link doesn't work. Sent several messages to Amigakit with no response back on how to get the driver.
Thanks again.
Mike

AmigaKit's support silence is very disappointing. I had to threaten to send back a shipment and request money back via Paypal: And suddenly I got a reply within 30 minutes.
