WCIP is a nice demo, but "Metropolice" is muuuuch cooler and has more style.

I disagree. Metropolice has got the 1998 "use arrows and overlay backgrounds" fetish. Style? 12 years ago, yes.

Metropolice was my favourite demo in the compo. Much more enjoyable than We came in peace which looks nice, sounds nice and is totally spoiled by the ultra low frame rate!

I think MP creates more atmosphere.
It has something to tell and at least I can lose myself much better in this demo. Anyway, both demos are brilliant. |

I think this demo was more about those limits being stretched. They are all exceptional in different ways. |

Well, "stretching limits" is not what this demo does for me, for me it is a perfect example of "should have been made for a different platform". And the code could be faster, believe me!

The only thing pushed to limits is the fastram abuse!

All pretty cool demos with some neat ideas.
Out of interest, these Amiga demos... are they all constructed/rendered on real Amiga's? Including the music? Still don't come close to Desert Dream though for me.. |

Not sure about that but they have to be played on a real amiga at the compo.

We Come in Piece looks like its aimed to run best on a MorphOS setup running under its 68k emu. Totaly incompatable with WinUAE jit. I dont know what its like on a real amiga, but its not great even in winuae non jit. Its an RTG demo which can support aga (but i havent had aga output working in uae). It probably a good tech demo for showing streaming music while throwing lightwace objects around.
I dont mind watching these types of demos that try to pulloff pc demo style but done on anciant amiga hardware, but it does need to have somekind of direction instead of what looks like loads of random efefcts tied together. I think metropolice was the best of the amiga demos this year too . Some switches to try if anyone is trying to run it. It will try to use cybergraphx by default (works with p96) and make adjustments if MorphOS is in use. -aga -ahi -8bit (14bit default) -double -wide -lowpri -fps -gui (mui morphos) |

I'm tired of Elude, they have been doing the same demo the last 3 years.
May be impressive tech wise (or was, the novelty wore off), but there's nothing behind that. Also their demos run best under WinUAE (or some bizarre amiga hardware) and not a real, normal machine o_O I don't want a 3D scene fly by engine, I want something a bit more thought out. My favourite of the competition was FETISH 2 by Ozone. Fuck nostalgia dudes, this is 2010 and there's so much more you can do today with the same machines. Also, teh demoscene is **********NOT****** about nostalgia. |

As always, you just sigh and shake your head at those inzaane Poles They make every demo as if they were making a demoreel for a job at Valve. I thought it was a bit grey and dark and choppy at the party but still liked it - mostly the ship and later the smoking crashed ship, despite the disturbance effect And the second half in general, although it would have been cooler with at least some kind of physics or realistic anim on the falling blocks. I liked Metro Police for a bunch of reasons, Kraftwerk quotes and Slayer design/graphics. The design is good even though I agree it reminds of earlier demos. There is some good code, even though I enjoyed the textured objects at the end the most. The most wtf/awesome Amiga release for me was Blueberry's 4K. It made me very happy and contented. |
