1084 cable problem.

I've got a 1084 with a 8 pin din plug not a 6 pin, so I'm assuming that its a digital 1084. Am I right so far ?

I have yet to find a diagram of an 8pin din to 23pin 1084 cable on the net, but I've had a go at making one.

And here it is.

6 Digital Intensity to 5 Intensity
7 Digital Red to 2 Red
8 Digital Green to 3 Green
9 Digital Blue to 4 Blue
11 Hsync to 7 Hsync
12 Vsync to 8 Vsync
16 Video Ground to 6 Ground

With this setup I'm getting more red than normal (red kickstart disk, red workbench background etc...)

Are 8pin 1084's rare as I've only seen cable diagrams for the 6pin din variety ?

Your 1084 should have BOTH inputs, digital and analog. You shouldnt be using digital with your Amiga! (pure red + pure green + pure blue gives you like 16 combinations of colors only).

If you dont find a 6 pin DIN plug, you probably have a 9 pin SUB-D plug. Take a closer look! One port should say LIN RGB, the other TTL RGB (the one you are currently using). Once you found your analogue RGB port, make the suitable cable!

yep, 8 pin 1084's are very rare, They never made seen one,

They are 6 pin din, 9 pin D-type (same as mouse/joystick), or scart (mine was).

I've attached details of how to make an amiga to 6-pin din html doc...

All 1084s should have an 8 pin DIN, along with a 6 pin DIN, 9 Sub-D or SCART port... The choice for analog RGB port changed from model to model. Mine has 8pin DIN digital + 6 pin DIN analogue, but the most common ones have a 9 pin Sub-D analogue.

Here are diagrams:

Hmm looks like the 9 pin Sub-D is both digital and analogue?

Thanks for the info lads, but I do only have a 8pin din. There is a label for lin rgb but no female plug (looks like there is room for one but a hole was never punched out of the case).

I may try a scart cable instead.

Well your monitor MUST have a port for digital RGB somewhere, be it 6 pin DIN, 9 pin Sub-D or SCART... unless it's some C128 monitor inside a 1084 case!

ok, I stand corrected about the 8 pin din.

maybe they never released those in the UK, I must have seen a couple of hundred during my years repairing amiga's.

most were scart, but as it's supposed to be the european standard it not surprising

anyway, look here: http://www.hardwarebook.net/ for details of amiga rgb, scart and any other connectors / cables you might want to make...

From what I have seen, the older models with Philips tubes had either both round plugs for analogue & digital in the stereo 'S' model, and the scart for analogue and din for digital in the mono 1084 model. I have never seen a 1084-S with scart, but ofcourse it is possible they exist.
The later 1084 models with Daewoo tubes didn't have the digital RGB any more, and just had a sub-d plug for RGB analogue.

I think one ( very strange ) 1084 I have also has ony a sub-d plug for analogue & digital, selectable by a switch, but I am not sure on this.

However, if your 1084 has the scart, than you must connect you Amiga this way. You cannot connect it to th round din digital port ( well, you can, but then you'll only have 8 colours and also Amiga's voltage level of rgb analogue is too low for monitor's digital input ! )
