Dizzy's 30th Anniversary! - Which Dizzy game do you remember playing?

This year is Dizzy's 30th Anniversary, created by the legendary Oliver Twins Philip and Andrew Oliver!

So yes Indie Retro News is celebrating it and with the announced DizzyAGE HD remake (link), which games do you remember playing? Was you ever a Dizzy fan?

For me Treasure Island Dizzy always has a special place

...but I do have all the Dizzy games setup / configured and have played them all over time

I got the Dizzy Collection on C64 for my 8th birthday. Magicland was the first one I completed (took over a year to work it all out) so that's my favourite.

I've always been a huge Dizzy fan since my C64 days. The original Dizzy game was one of the first games I ever played. I was soon hooked. I didn't migrate to the Amiga until the last Dizzy game had been released on the C64. I managed to complete all the adventure games but I wasn't too keen on the arcade Dizzy games. More recently I've purchased the Oliver Twins new book. Fantastic read.

Fantasy World Dizzy, also known as Dizzy III, was my first contact with the Dizzy series way back in the Spectrum days. I graduated onto the Amiga a few months later, again with Fantasy World Dizzy. It was also the first Dizzy game that I completed. It is, then, my favourite of the entire series on both formats.

I thought Magicland was the best, with the best puzzles (most logical) best locales, best graphics, best difficulty. A pleasure from start to finish.
Next up Treasure Island, with the best music and all round charm. Reaching the other side of the water, with the sunken galleon was like a whole new world of wonder opening up.
Fantasy World also very good, with some fun little twists especially in the latter part of the game. Great opening in the dungeon, great castle to explore. Tying up the crocodile was a triumph.
Prince of the Yolk Folk next, very good like Magicland, just not quite up to the same level on everything.
Dizzy (the first) next, very old fashioned and difficult to play, with some shocking puzzles (this was meant for children?) and pretty basic graphics and no music. I finished this once with a cheat. A bit of a chore toward the end.
Last one is a stinker, Spellbound. What were they thinking. The start was terrible, with the trampettes and stones, make it past that and there are 1000 insta-deaths waiting for you in a huge but rambling unstructured map with irritating music and damage for falling too far.

Good too see the Darling brothers made it big selling Codemasters, I had some good times playing their games. Strangely Chiller on the C64 being the best.

Magicland is brilliant, I loaded it up and I apparently played it so many times back then that I remember almost every puzzle, because I nearly completed it in one sitting with my son and daughter watching.

Dizzy and Treasure Island Dizzy were the ones i remember playing the most on the Spectrum, we bought the others but the first ones always get remembered more fondly!

Reading the new Oliver Twins book, the Darling brothers (primarily David Darling) come across like complete and utter tw*ts! They were making millions during Dizzy's boom years yet were withholding payments from the twins. Sounds to me like the brothers were out to fleece the twins of every penny they could get. While the twins were struggling to pay their staff, the brothers were busy making their jobs harder while spending their new millions on new houses and Ferrari's. The Oliver Twins were maybe too mild mannered for their own good unfortunately. I'd have gone absolutely ape-shit!

It's the original Dizzy on the Spectrum that sticks out for me. It was before Dizzy was a well-known name and it was a lucky find in a local shop that had a little cabinet of budget games. It was a tad easier than Treasure Island Dizzy, although that collapsing pit was a bugger as it meant game over if you fell in! An Amiga version would've been nice...

I skimm read the OP and thought from memory the Darling brothers coded the Dizzy games It turns out they was the publiser, through their company Codemasters, maybe that is in my memory in some way from back in the day.

Anyway most progammers can give you anecdotals about being ripped off, it tended to be a learning curve back in the day. They then left the company for another or started their own company. Even the Darling brothers worked at the publisher Mastertronic before starting Codemasters. Mathew Smith had problems with Bug Byte before leaving to go to Software Projects.....

No excuse for treating people badly though.

Crystal Kingdom Dizzy as its the easiest of all the Dizzy games and complete able by mere mortals without need for a guide. The game is split up into 4 mini adventures with not many items to juggle and game maps of reasonable size.
