SupraDrive 500XP Power Supply

Hi,

I am looking for a power supply for my SupraDrive and found this on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COMMODORE-...item43bf9441a2

Does anyone know if this will work with my SupraDrive? Does it have enough power?

Thanks

basic wayne psu? It will work.
You can build yourself it's just cheap HDD power supply like that:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDD-POWER-...-/320705061184
with 4 pin din plug. These are cheap PSU's but provide 2A which is more than enough. I use them with my 1541-II and 1581.

That PSU delivers 2A at 5VDC and 2A at 12VDC.

The only comparable PSU I have is for the similar A590, and that delivers 3A at 5VDC and 0.85A at 12VDC.

So it appears that the COMMODORE 64/128 1541-II/1581 Replacement Power Pack could be a little short of power on the 5VDC rail.

oh i forgot to mention,if or when you get a supply for it make absolutely sure the jumpers inside the 500xp for taking power from the 500 are NOT jumpered.(there near the edge connector)

you dont wont to be feeding power from two places.

best of luck.

I am currently also using 500+'s power supply for my SupraDrive, but I can not enable the 2Meg Ram i have on it (always get guru meditation), so only 1Meg Ram from my SupraDrive can be used so i tought it was my 500+'s power supply that was not strong enough or could it be the other 1Meg Ram that is faulty?

could be bad memory, what ics are you using? there are two configs for 2mb.and i wouldnt use any drams slower than 80ns in it.

if its fully populated there probably 256x4 drams if not there 1mx4 drams in four sockets.the later being more expensive.
you can read the part numbers to confirm.

you can swap the banks around in matching sets to see if the memory is bad.(the banks are marked on the board)
are you using the jumpers inside the case to configure the memory?

also,if you have a drive in it.try the switch at the back to turn it off and see if the memory works.
by loading up workbench by floppy and using avail in cli.

mine has 8mb of ram and a 4 gb drive.(maxed out)

Sorry for the long reply, i have been working much and have not had time with my Amiga.

I did today open my Supradrive and inside are 8 x HY51C4256S-10 (that i think is 256k each, right?).

I did swap the banks around and you are right there are some bad memory there.

What DRAM are you using to get 8MB? Do you have a part number?

Thanks

Avoid the basicwayne power supplies. We've seen a number of examples of them over at lemon64, they are poorly constructed and nothing short of a fire hazard. They don't even have a fuse.

yes they are 256kx4 drams 100ns,i'll post back in a bit and find some 1mx4 dram part numbers and maybe a link.

ive modified mine to use memory from a 8mb simm.(i can post pictures if you/anyone wants)
if your wondering how much this cost me to do,a 8mb simm is very cheap i only needed dil sockets for the conversion.

here is a small list of part numbers for reference:
TC514400
HM514400
Upd424400
MSM514400
TC514402
MSM514402

and a link on ebay.(bare in mind to fully fill that board to 8mb you need 16 of these and the sale is for one part)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOSHIBA-TC...item53f505bb2a

be careful though, these part numbers also are available in different packages.so only go for the 20 pin dip package at around 80ns or faster.

Is there some soldering to do to use a 8mb simm?

There's quite a bit of soldering to do, but it's just a lot of wires. :-)

i'll post pictures,lol

theres 640 solder points.no it didnt take as long as you think.

it was bit more work, but it takes a bit less space on the board this way i found.
