Utility to check for file changes

Hi,

I'm looking (on Aminet?) for a CLI utility which would set a watch on a file and trigger an action upon any changes to the file being watched.

Looks like I can't find a good combination of keywords to succesfully search therefore I'm asking from help from anyone

Thanks!

I remember some old tools which I don't use anymore. They are storing CRC checksums of all files for later comparison. But both are WB tools and are not running in the background watching for changes.

AWAC 1.2 (Siegfried Soft)(DE) 1995.adf

http://aminet.net/package/util/virus/Mill
Mill includes also the tool Integrity for generating checksums.

http://aminet.net/package/util/cli/WaitNotify-1.1 requires a filesystem that supports file notification and kick 2+ I think.

DOH, network filesystem is what I'd need because I'm setting up a crossplatform dev chain which should execute files as soon as an external compiler compiles them.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I think you want to/need to(?) compare the file info block of the given file for any changes. Shouldn't be difficult to write yourself? A small ARexx script should do the trick too by using STATEF(<filespec>) function.

What network filesystem are you planning to use? Samba? NFS?
