PPC demos
After the surprising addition of PPC support to WinUAE I see the talk is mostly about how to run OS4. What about demoscene productions like Planet Potion or the ones by Madwizards? Do any of them work?

With all respect, telling me to find the answer to my own question isn't very helpful.

Well, its not terribly difficult to test
One thing to keep in mind though is that several of those demos require a Permedia2 card, like planet potion. So that example is already not going to work. |

Yes, but now you've saved me from wasting time trying to run something that won't work, so thank you for that. Did all accelerated 3D on Amiga use Permedia 2? Did anyone use direct hardware access, or could support theoretically be added to an emulator via HLE? I understand there were multiple 3D APIs available (Warp3D, CyberGL, others?), was one of them preferred by the demoscene?

Well..... i dont know :-)
At the time those demos came out the standard card to run Warp3D on was the Permedia2. However a lot of those demo's also run on MOS (See JPV MOS Demo pack), so those are at least probably not to picky on which specific graphics card they need. Ofcourse, this doesnt help as there is no other card emulated that will do Warp3D in WinUAE. One thing you could try is Wazp3D which is (i think) a full reimplementation but using software rendering, probably fast enough on WinUAE. However if its compatible enough for demo's? I have my doubts. |

Wazp3D should be compatible enough for all those old demos that dont use Warp3D v5 (multitexturing). In fact more recent demos like Crisot "Three" works too but without the multitexturing effect...
So demos from Crisot, Encore, Mad Wizards mays works but slooow as there is no hardware support in WinUAE-ppc My Microbe3D from Aminet works too Copy the Wazp3D.library-ppc to libs:Warp3D.library Remember to use "renderer:soft to bitmap" in Wazp3D-prefs Alain Thellier - Wazp3D |

Planet Potion and its sequel Future Visions are probably the best intros on Amiga ever, but AFAIK they are very picky about the hardware they work on. IIRC they only work with BPPC/BVision combo... even CSPPC/CVisionPPC which also is Permedia2 fails.
I think there aren't any 3D gfx card supported with WinUAE currently and Wazp3D is the only chance to get any 3D accelerated stuff to work, or am I mistaken? There are some older (late 90s mostly) PPC demos which do work without 3D acceleration (some Venus Art, Creative Minds and Mankind stuff etc), but the best and the latest ones require Warp3D.. and most shouldn't be as picky as Potion's intros. For a good software rendered PPC demo I'd try Glare by MadWizards. It should work with any RTG card I think... If Warp3D demos can be get to work somehow, then I'd recommend Encore's and MaWi's demos, they're great. |

Hello
Just tested the Warp3D demo " Encore - By Night" and it works with WinUAE-ppc on a 24 bits WB screen with Wazp3D with set to "renderer:SoftPPC to bitmap" Slooow but works :-) |

A shame you cant filter for a specific OS on ADA or pouet.
All they offer is a PPC/RTG selection. But that will give you morphos and os4 demos, too. So it is a bit of trial and error... Had anyone luck with some MWI demos? They just stop working on generating e.g. perlin noise or open a ppc error window. @thellier any chance we will see wipeout2097 working in winuae? |

I think thats to much of a issue, the amount of MOS/OS4 only demo's is truly less then a handful.

Well.. a bit more than handful, around 50 for MorphOS and maybe some more for OS4 too, if you count those demos which are ported from the linux to these systems too, not just pure native demos.
That PPC/RTG selection is very rough indeed. It also lists 68k products which have RTG support, so you can't list just PPC productions. And there's no way to list if they are software rendered or do they need 3D acceleration. Unfortunately whole Amiga categories have been a mess on Pouet from the start. First there was no OCS at all, heh. And they still have OCS and AGA symbols in wrong way IMHO. And this PPC/RTG dump place... |

(D)ownload
(D)ecruch (D)isapointment This is triple D quality. They should really sort it better. Many demos dont even have a txt/nfo about the HW requirements. So you have to see for your self. EDIT: I just have to mention here that away from that little "flaw", I'm still very, very greatful for all the web based demo arc's. Last edited by Michael Sykes; 30 April 2015 at 00:10. |

Thanks all! So 3D demos on Amiga mostly use Warp 3D, not CyberGL or others?

I would be nice to have Permedia 2 emulation in Winuae it would be very nice to see Planet Potion in good quality. I read somewhere that the source code for Potion demos/intros where lost in a harddrive crash so a gfx patch is probably impossible.
