screen flickers when floppy is active

Hi!

When the floppy drive of my A1200 is active, the screen flickers on my CBM 1084 monitor (connected with RGB-cable). Is anybody familiar with that problem? How can it be aided?

Regards
Dalton/Tulou

I'd check the PSU, it might be too weak.

Do you have a pcmcia ram card fitted? Only ask as I had a 600 that used to flicker when the drives were accessed with a pcmcia card fitted and I was told that was down to dodgy caps.

I'm using a 4.5A (A500) PSU so that shouldn't be the problem. No pcmcia card fitted. Perhaps the caps then... Is it common that they loose their capacitance as they get old?

Known & old problem. Your A1200 mobo revision is 1D4, right?

Alternatively, look at http://aminet.net/package/docs/hard/15khzhackext

I'd say it could be a cap problem, I had this happening on my A600 too.

It's a 1D4 board alright. Can't believe I never heard of such a problem before. I'll look into the fixes and write here again when it works (or doesn't). Thanks!

the readme in http://aminet.net/package/docs/hard/flickfix says

"The first A1200 released by Commodore Amiga had a screen flicker
bug, when the CPU loaded the screen started flicking, this fix
will remove the bug. "

The 1D4 board isn't the first released amiga 1200 and mine don't have this problem anyway look all the info you can get

Some A600 motherboards have a fault where the screen flickers (actually the colour flickers) on the composite video output when using the floppy drive. Using an RGB cable fixes the problem.

Dunno if A1200's also suffered from it?
