.IFF Viewer

Heya guys,

Can anyone recommend a small .IFF viewer that works with WB 1.3 and can be run from CLI?

I've used "FastView" before but that seems to need AGA plus asl.library (v43)...

Mostra used to be popular in 1.3 days; don't know if the latest version supports 1.3 anymore. http://aminet.net/package/gfx/show/Mostra2V15

Aminet also came up with this: http://aminet.net/package/gfx/show/ALook31

Cheers guys

ALook & Mostra both seem to need at least 2.0...

IFF is working from CLI on 1.3 but I can't seem to get rid of the annoying window:

Tried redirectimng with >NIL: but no difference... Anyone?

It's always a good idea to look in the old Fish disks if looking for software for OS 1.x: http://www.amiga-stuff.com/pd/fish.html

Here you'll find older versions of Mostra and many other contenders.

Hmmm, how about ShowIFF in the IFFLib V22.3 package by Christian Weber then?

I am attaching my two old compilation made for my children now in their thirties

Compilation1= there are SHOW 2.1
Compilation4= there are PPSHOW for WB1.3 (you can compress images)

In the compilation are the parameters we also used NoisePlayer, great for playing modules.

NB: PPShow no parameters require reqtools.library

Wow, here's a really, really small IFF viewer for CLI use in pure ASM called Viewer/Sho. Yes, early Fred Fish disks rule for small obscure utils!

Coolio, thanks idrougge

Mostra on Fred Fish Disk #330 works well with 1.3. My only issue is that you need to press <Esc> to exit. Would be cool if <Left Mouse> could be used but there doesn't seem to be a switch for that...

Sho is working well

Mouse is invisible (which is cool) and exits on <Left Mouse> button (but you need to move the mouse slightly so away from borders).

Nice! I'll have to add that one to my resource folder of compact utils.

Like you, I've been playing mad scientist trying to fit a few games on to a single floppy as a bit of an exercise over the last couple of months, and have been hunting down all sorts of different compact utils to achieve that eureka moment. It's been fun in a head-banging kinda way, to say the least!

Yup, sure is good fun but can be frustrating also

...but as you say, when you do actually succeed it's a good feeling

DamienD, if you had not tested SHOW and PPSHOW I enclose the compilation again! where to get the two programs

PPSHOW= Exit -> Mouse DX
SHOW= Exit -> Automatically after a few seconds

NoisePlayer= Music Exit -> Key ESC

Geez Louise, how many different IFF viewers are there on the Amiga called "Show"??!! Here are a couple more just for good measure!

- Show V2.1 (quite small, but slightly bigger than the one above)
- Show V2.0 (the predecessor to Mostra, but needs arp.library)

Also, for future reference there's an older version of ShowIFF (bundled with IFFLib V15.3) that uses iff.library (for both gfx & sound files)......but doesn't appear to need arp.library.
