I don't know if I coming or going RF, I also have folk call around to have a go themselves to try and suss it and I can only rely on them every few days. I watched friends get as far as partitioning in WinUAE and it looked like everything was going well, but as usual no luck. Tried another 2 sata drives and 2 IDE drives. I am pretty much certain they used PFS3
So never mind...looks like I am beaten. |

Here is the story so far, all attempts were futile...So I boxed it all up and sent to Amigakit in Cardiff (Leaman). They have had since before xmas. They tell me that to add my hard SSD drive will need to be on the slave IDE and have a permanent CF card as a bootable drive.
This just is not right Surely??? For those of you with the FastATA, how do you have it set up? Do you boot off a 4gbCF? What IDE port is you're HD on? Are you using a CD Rom drive, if so what port? Last edited by AshtonPete; 21 January 2014 at 19:44. |

I guess your SSD isn't seen at all by the hardware (scsi.device) so perhaps Amigakit suggest this as a solution to boot in and patch the scsi.device.
Another solution if this is the case would be to burn a custom Rom with the updated scsi.device already inside. You should really ask them for their reasoning though I'm only speculating. You could also load the updated scsi.device from a floppy Disk but that would be a lame solution. |

I didn't read first time you're using a FastATA but it presents the same chicken and egg issue as you need the drive to be seen at initial boot to load the FastATA drivers. I'm not sure if they can be burned into a Rom but the updated scsi.device might just to the trick anyway allowing the drive to be seen ans then the ATA3 driver to be loaded. The way you setup your devices on the FastATA is totally down to personal preference, just remember if you use the 44way IDE you can't use the primary 40way anymore so you need to put your CDROM or other devices on the secondary channel and again these will only work after the ATA3 driver has loaded. Some software & games require that you HDD and CDROM be on the primary IDE for music tracks is one example or installing OS4.1 Classic. |

No, they can't do that, but you can find people here or on Amibay that will help you out.
Honestly, I think you should just use a device that works, instead of the 120GB SSD. It has given you enough trouble already. It's about time you actually start enjoying your Amiga. |

I can't do owt till I get me Amiga back....I have to say though, whichever way the cat jumps... I still need a hard drive bigger than a flimsy no hope 4 meg CF card.....
See what happens! |

My advice is get one of the kingspec 20gb IDE SSD drives, they work great :-)

THere are CF cards as large as 32GB already.
I don't get the "flimsy" comment though, I -never- had a problem with any of the CF setups I have made (over 5 now) |

I'd advise against large cf card, I've seen them invalidate a partition for no reason and only way to fix is format and re copy data.
Go for real large mechanical hdd above 8gb or look at SSD options. I've had good success with the kingspec variety. |

I think you should all know that sinse Dec 2013 to this day, Amigakit has had my A1200 for 107 days... I have now run out of patience. No way on this planet regardless of holidays/festivities or whatever; does it take so long to prep a hard drive.

Why do we all need to know? The problem is between you and Amigakit, why don't you pick up the phone and give them a call?
This 120gb SSD obviously don't play nice with the hardware, why not try something else. Life is too short to get so stressed out over a 20 year old computer. |

I never could get a modern sata drive (hd/dvd) to work on these ide to sata adapters on a PC (old or modern mobos), so I think it simply does not work hardware wise. Maybe it works for old sata1 devices of 10+ years old, but certainly not sata2/3 devices.

You need to be aware of the large amount of time we have invested in this for you, so I am disappointed by your public remarks. We have purchased and tried a few different brands of SSD and they work OK with your hardware, so this SSD you supplied and not purchased from us is problematic. We have been talking to Elbox and they are sending another IDE/SATA adapter for us to try. If you need to ask us any questions, you can update your Support Ticket. |

That SSD Hd isn't giving you but problems... In your place I would drive any of your tanks over it and I would be so happy
