At the time of this post.. 126k per second down single download Upload was always fine with me in terms of speed as i was maxing out connection.

I always log in once per IP since i use mirror. Tested this via web browser to eliminate FTP client setting as the cause, and i get same speed via there too. Could be just congestion.

I found you from my logs, and it really does seem that you're getting stuff at kinda slow speed from here. Anywhere in between 1Kbs to 500Kbs, your last 1500 downloads average to 156Kbs.

Did you have similar issue with the primary server? My uneducated guess is that your geographic location might play a role here. Can you do me a favor and see what kind of speeds you get from here: ftp.funet.fi

Good point DannyBoy. When comparing speeds to grandis.nu, compare them to ftp.sunet.se to see if its as slow there. If it is, there is nothing I can do. You just got a slow connection to Sweden.

When using a browser, its possible that it closes the connection after listing a folder. Thats why it takes 5-10 seconds when clicking a new link since it needs to connect again.

Although, then it would do the same to the mirror.

No clue why browsing would be slow. I do not see that here (Even when testing remotely...)

Not only that, but to my knowledge all finnish internet traffic pass through Sweden Atleast it used to be that way, dunno if things have changed.

I tested ftp.funet.fi and getting around same speed.s... average 260k

same speeds tested on main FTP (grandis.nu), as just tried that now as well... Both done from web browser. So as you said, probably just location. However, testing on ftp.sunet.se gets max 800k average.

I don't think so...
Code:
ftp.sunet.se 24.2 MB/s
ftp.funet.fi 17.6 MB/s
bit-rot.org 9.1 MB/s
grandis.nu ~290 KB/s
Edit: Logged in with my username/pw. Speed is even worse (around 170KB/s) but still good enough for some small Amiga files. :-)

Surely it's not slow for you too? I wonder why this could be; but considering that everyone on the internet (i.e. non-EAB members) have free access to leech at will

...get voting / give opinions here people: Should the "EAB File Server" be locked down to members only?

@jbl007
I'm bit confused right now. How does those stats tell location is not an issue for amiga_Forever? If he's only able to pull 260KBs from Funet and 156KBs from mirror, it would strongly suggest that it is.

@DamienD
Chill, atleast anonymous accounts are now capped to 500KBs Personally I voted no, but will go with whatever the board decides.

Oh I'm chilled DannyBoy

So anonymous accounts are recently being capped to 500KBs; that's great

...but I hate sounding like a broken record; there are numerous occasions where I get speeds equal to (or even less than) those reported by amiga_Forever

I'm on a 40MB / low contention / fibre connection so this shouldn't be the case... Not to mention, it's only when accessing the EAB File Server; other FTPs that I use are all very speedy indeed...

We can schedule a test when you find it slow. I can then let you log in yourself and see if its better.

If it is faster when you are alone, its probably a hardware issue on my end as we are still no where near max bandwidth.

Excellent test (If you're not logged in with "ftp" =) ). Thanks.

You can also run 'site who' when logged in with uploading account to see current users online and traffic used.

Sure, appreciated

BTW; I always login with my account via FileZilla or browsers.

We are currently at 18 anonymous users online. Bandwidth is only at 3-6000k/sec. If anyone want to test if its slower then usual, go ahead =)

Edit: I've moved the entire FTP over to another disk array with less usage. Should see a massive improvement on upload accounts ("ftp" still locked to 500kb/Sec per login)

Massive speed-up, down 3000~7000KB/s from single connection.

Hmm, I'm still getting less than 500KB with my account (349KB current).

Try ftp.sunet.se to compare speeds to Sweden

Wait, I was doing something in my network and now I cancelled it. Speed got better, sometimes nearing 900kb/s

That server does not let me log in with my username, says :
Response: 530 This FTP server is anonymous only.
Error: Could not connect to server

Ah goodie. ftp.sunet.se is anonymous only. Don't try using a username.

If you have to use username "anonymous" and a dummy email for password. Thats the classic old way to log on anonymously to an FTP =)
