Connecting Amiga 1200 to Hazro 26" LCD monitor
I posted this to hardforum.com as well for safety's sake:
Okay, here's the deal. I have an A1200, Hazro 26" monitor and some leads. Surprisingly, the Hazro monitor has an RGB 15 pin connector at the back, and I have a short 23 pin to 15 pin lead (and a 15pin to 15pin extension lead). Here are some photos: http://www.skytopia.com/stuff/amiga-leads.jpg http://www.skytopia.com/stuff/hazro.jpg Is it safe for me to try to connect the Amiga 1200 to the Hazro monitor? I don't want to risk wrecking the monitor. |

I think you'll find that's a VGA connector. The monitor is very unlikely to support 15khz screenmodes on that input.

Call Hazro, ask for the manual / datasheet, look at the supported frequency ranges, then you can decide whether to get a scandoubler or is a silver adapter enough.
Pro tip: PAL is 50Hz vertical, 15kHz horizontal. Potential disappointment: your monitor will not go below 60Hz vertical 30kHz horizontal. |

Hello stranger! How's the world treating you?
Quote:
* The monitor will display a blank screen with a message saying "unsupported scanrates" or words to that effect * The monitor will display a scrambled version of the Amiga's video output, overlaid with the above message * The monitor will display the Amiga's screen just fine. * The monitor will display the Amiga's screen perfectly, but overlay a message saying it can't! (Yes, I've seen monitors do this!) * The monitor will remain in standby mode, and won't bother waking up in response to the Amiga's video signal. |

Thanks guys. I managed to find this if it's any help. It mentions 50Hz:

There is a small chance that it will work, but it can usually never be seen from the specifications. VGA inputs almost always specifies 31 kHz as the minimum horizontal frequency since this is that the VGA spec says. Some monitors do support 15 kHz anyway (which is what you need) even if the specs do not say so. Since you will be using it outside the specs, it is a gamble whether it will work or not, however it is very unlikely that you will damage anything unless your cable is wired wrong, e.g. connecting 12V from the Amiga to any pin in the monitor input. |

Okay, for the sake of science I went ahead and bit the bullet for curiosity's sake.
It didn't work (the familiar 'no signal' message popping up jumping around the screen), but my monitor is still alive! I tried 'analog' and 'video' modes, both without success. But at least I know it won't work now, and that would've bugged me, so thanks to all for giving me the go ahead Might it be worth going through the composite video (yellow socket) if I get a 23pin to SCART lead as a mediator (and from there, get a SCART to composite video lead) ? Or will I still suffer the same kHz problem? |

If you want the better quality of RGB output, you might investigate how to use those component inputs as they should work with 15kHz. It might be as easy as just connecting the RGB pins to those sockets, but I suspect a wee adaptor circuit would be needed to include the correct sync signals. Would be cheaper than a scandoubler. |

More often than not, component (YPbPr) inputs will not show the RGB colourspace correctly.
