I think someone has upset Cosmos

Just noticed Cosmos has stopped any new releases, and disabled all downloads from his blog.

I wonder who he is referring to?

Who knows? I have heard of people selling other peoples open source emulators on android etc, though. You may need a specific terms of license to avoid such things.
a few tweaks, add a new g.u.i and call it your own work.

That's a shame as his projects were making a huge difference. :-( Also a shame as the Amiga community is so small that this sort of nonsense is just crazy.

Why do you think he disabled anything? Could be a server problem, too. Better ask him before making assumptions.

Not the first time Cosmos is notoriously touchy.

Every time I used his libraries I'd only get crashes, resets or other problems

You install them for superior performance not stability and the Amiga needs all the performance it can get so we can have an extra 1fps in Quake

sigh..... sadly Cosmos takes things to heart, and quite quickly too.

I just hope he gets chance to relax and move on from what is most likely an insignificant issue.

I have no ill feelings towards Cosmos, I have a lot of respect for Cosmos as well as his community efforts. Sadly he can be difficult to work with, to be fair I am unsure if this is a language barrier or just personality / ego conflict.

I haven't been that active in the Amiga community for quite some time, and "Cosmos" is a new acquaintance to me entirely. But from what little I understand from his blog (not speaking any French at all, and experienceing some difficulties trying to interpret his attempts at English) his goals are quite ambitious, and if he's half-decent as a programmer, it would be a loss to the community should he decide to leave.

As for ego, well he's French. Deal with it

A bit of both in my opinion.

His goals are indeed ambitious and he seems to have a lot of motivation which is a good thing. However, as for the "half-decent programmer", he unfortunately decides to do things "his way" all the time which leads to very unstable code. And when it comes to system-patches it's more important to have stable code instead of code that has been (often quite mindless) speed optimised and crashes "randomly".

This one statement sums it up pretty well.

he could have been english, german or italian, and have a big ego

Lately he got problems because a person has denonciated him for hidden job and money earned (most probably an amiga professional)....

That's why we don't ear anything about him actually.......

EDIT : found this on his blog too :

"Some people are selling my hard work, without even asking any authorization from me

I stop therefore one end for all any releases"

I'm American but have some English, Irish and German blood lines. When my ego flares up from time to time who gets the blame?

It's sad to hear that someone is trying to make money off of someone elses work. I always ask the individual responsible (if they are contactable) before using their code/art and I certainly wouldn't use anyone elses code/art in sellable stuff without a proper legal agreement in place.

I don't know Cosmos and I don't think I have used/seen any of his stuff. I hope he continues to work on his Amiga projects.
Any of us releasing games/software for the Amiga (or any computer/console) are potentially subject to the same thing (someone claiming our work as their own) and it sucks.

From his blog:
Update :
I just saw some fuckers sell my hard work on EAB,
so no more release here.

The downloads stopped when this message appeared, and are still off. I would ask him to be sure, but I don't think he's in the mood to speak to an EAB member at the moment...

I'm a regular user of some of his libraries, they're very good and increased my system speed greatly. A great shame if what he says is true

May I ask why cosmos got banned here on eab? I've probably overlooked.
And why dos he, away from 'people selling his stuff here', seem to have beef with this site?

Is it really because he's french?

Cosmos was banned after he was criticised by another EAB member for releasing modified AmigaDOS libraries with bugs which were the result of him deleting code which was still required.

This escalated into a full argument after Cosmos denied that he was doing anything wrong. Eventually Cosmos started deleting all his posts and attachments, leaving the threads in tatters.

This was not fair to other users who were following his progress with great interest, so he was banned and the moderators subsequently restored as many of his posts as was possible.

Why would any sane person develop code for a retro machine?

I agree it was not fair to other users, but don't people have the right to delete their own posts?

Not if it "tatters" the thread.
