Gem'Z / Super Gem'Z

Directly from the extro / credits:

• Add "Ramiro Vaca" to "Artist - Graphician", he did the tile graphics.
• Publisher / Producer: Software 2000
• Artist - Misc: Peter Thierolf (Concept)
• According to the credits, the coders name is "Torsten Lamparter" (not Thorsten Lamparter)

The Secret Of Monkey Island

• Publisher for Germany was Softgold
• Conversion hardware is actually "PC (EGA)". The VGA version was released year later and don't really count in my opinion... It was also released for Atari ST, SegaCD (MegaCD) and Fujitsu FM-Towns.

Damocles: Mercenary II

• Developer: Novagen (that is/was Paul Woakes' company)
• Publisher should be "Unknown", afaik it was not published by Novagen
• Artist - Misc: Mo Warden (Graphician maybe, but I'm not sure)
• It was released for the Atari ST as well
• It was ported to the PC years later, but this port never saw the light of the day...

btw, I noticed that some games like "F40 Pursuit Simulator" / "Crazy Cars II" or "Panza Kick Boxing" / "Best Of The Best: Championship Karate" and some more are treated as identical games but they are not really identical.

e.g. just compare "F40 Pursuit Simulator" with "Crazy Cars II" and you'll see that not only the title is different, so "also known as" is clearly wrong.

What's the difference between Panza Kick Boxing and Best of the Best? Is it only in the name of the fighters? ( I don't think that's a true difference to make both games be considered "different")

The Mega-Drive version of Best of the Best has a "secret" kumite tournament in an underground place (It looks like that movie with Van Damme), and you have to be invited to fight it, and it's tough as hell. It would be cool if the Amiga version had that too.

I am the king of Panza Kick Boxing!

Can't say from memory but I played both years ago and I still remember that one of them had more features.

If they were treated as identical games then there would not be two separate entries for them, right? The link to an alternative game title at the top of a game entry is to highlight to the user that there was another release of the game and that they can click on it to see details specific to that version. There's no implication that they are identical except for the titlescreens, although in a lot of instances that is usually the case. Where known, gameplay and other differences between releases are outlined in game entries (e.g. Out Run).

Well, but "also known as" implies that the games are identical, apart from the name. Maybe "also known as" could be changed into something less confusing.

Ambermoon

• Ambermoon was released in late 1993, not in 1995.
• Developer was Thalion, of course.
• The PC version was never released. (only ~65% of it was done)
• "Amiga original game: yes" seems to be wrong because it was started as an Atari ST game?

Unlike *current* HOL note (which I classified as wrong even in the private forum long time ago), to my knowledge "F40 Pursuit Simulator" is the US version of Crazy Cars II.

First of all, I reckon that the statement "Published under the title Crazy Cars II in the US" is horribly wrong. If noted at all, it should be vice-versa.

Secondly, could you tell any significant differences you found between CC II and F40?

Ambermoon: ...
Thalion Web Shrine says work was indeed started on ST, but the ST version was never released.
So it *IS* an Amiga original then. Starting work on a certain system but not finishing it on the very same system does not count.

Why should I do all the work ? See yourself, you can't miss the differences.

That's the problem, what is the definition of "Amiga original game" ? It's true that the ST version was never finished but it started as an Atari ST game and it's not an Amiga original game therefore.

btw, there's a similar problem with Turrican 3: It was first started as an Amiga game and even presented in 1991. But then it was cancelled. More exactly, it was converted and finished for the Mega Drive instead. After that, a new Turrican 3 for the Amiga was in development but it failed because of infighting (Rainbow Arts or Factor 5, I can't remember). In the end, the Mega Drive version was converted back to the Amiga using the game engine from Mr. Nutz.

Amiga original or not ? I say yes...

Sorry that I run slightly OT here, but ...
do you even know whether the unfinished Turrican 3 has differences in game-play towards the version back-converted from the MD?
If yes: as HOL is primarily aiming on Amiga gaming history, it might even be a reasonable thing to do a separate entry for the unfinished Amiga original version, provided that screenshots are available. This might cause many people to watch this with their eyes wide open, mightn't it.

Myth (Magnetic Scrolls)

Some interesting details:

Quote:
This game was only available as a welcome present in the UK adventure club
Official Secrets and never released to the public. It is rather rare and
often goes for several hundred dollars on auctions. The game itself is much
shorter than the normal Magnetic Scrolls' games and i.e has only four
graphics while the other games have about 30. Official Secrets was founded
by Tony Rainbird (also founder of the British Telecommunications' label
Rainbird)

Released: 1989
Distributor: Firebird / Rainbird
Story: Paul Findley
Graphics: Geoff Quilley, Tristan Humpries, Chris Kent
Programming: ?
Packaging: The game was shipped in a rather simple card folder,
printed in b/w.
Platforms: Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64/128,
Schneider CPC (Amstrad), PC
Package contents: Installation and Adventure guide,
Disc
Known versions: 1.0.

Whoo thanks for the credits!
Just for interest: do you own a copy of it (the boxed one)?

[edit] As a preliminary change, I've set 'License' to 'Promotional'.
I have no other idea. 'Commercial' is definitely wrong as it was NOT in the shops.

* The developer was Westwood
