IDE HD freezing when loading big files.

Hi all!!

it's been 2 years since i tried to patch this bug on my miggy...some games handling big files (such as myst, some jst installs) where freezing from times to times when loading... i never suceeded to patch it and didn't want to hear about moving from FFS to SFS....i finally found that it was related to the maxtransfer hd partition parameter...

lots of bugs were reported when this parameter was set too high, because old hd couldn't manage big transfers from controller and this lead to corrupted files...

but the inverse is also true...modern hds are so quick that the controller can't cope with the flow of info coming from them if this parameter is left to 0xfffffffff.....so all when using IDE HDs please check that your maxtransfer parameter is equal to 0x1fe00 for all your partitions...this is so great...no more bugs/freezing when playing !!!

hope i will help some of you!!!

My MaxTransfer is 0x00FFFFFF and I have no problem.
I don't understand this value, is your configuration quicker?
SYSInfo reports speed in BYTES/SEC about 2,700,000.
My Amiga 1200 has a Blizzard 1230IV + 16MB and I have an internal
2,5" Seagate 1,4 GB.

MaxTransfer is maximum number of bytes allowed to be transferred in single read/write request.

hmmm...

I might have to go and tinker with mine now... but not for this reason...

my mts is 0x0001FE00 on all my partitions of my 60g and 120g... but when I transfer files to my modded xbox via
the AriadneII network card I am locked in at 650,000 cps

perhaps this is the limitation of the mts setting...

food for thought

MaxTransfer does not affect speed. And there is no MaxTransfer value for network connections.

650 KB per second is a quite good value for a network.
