EAB/Lemon Super League 2018: Round 1 Game Vote

EAB/Lemon Super League 2018: Round 1 Game Vote
Starts: 00:01 December 31 Finishes: 23:59 January 13

The Super League is now ten years old!
We're entering the 11th season with a revamped scoring system that hopefully feels a bit more rewarding for the second half of the table. Also the team scoring has been optimized.

NEW - All games played in the 2011 Super League (with the exception of those played in Open Rounds since) can be voted for again in every round: Dune II, Magic Pockets, Llamatron, Alien Fish Finger, Pinball Dreams, Pang, Vroom, Ruff 'n' Tumble, Zeewolf, Indy Heat, Xenon 2: Megablast, Yo! Joe!, Batman The Movie and Soccer Kid

Rules

Full rules are here.

Vote for five games.

Your first choice gets 5 points, second 4 pts, third 3 pts, fourth 2 pts, fifth 1 pt.

Remember to choose games suitable for competition play. Edited votes will be discounted (unless told otherwise) so think before you post. Please only vote on one board - either EAB or Lemon.

If a game comes in ECS and AGA versions, please state your preference in your vote. In the event the versions differ gameplay-wise, the version with most votes will be played. ECS is the default if you don't specify.

rexsu won Round 14 last year so he gets double voting power for this round.

Tactical or nosey voters can see the Lemon voting thread here.

kkgarbod - With Street Rod 1, how does the scoring work? Is it game over when players run out of money?

Since there is no level displayed in the game, and the last level is a night level, I think it is very difficult to have fuel taken into account. (I have no idea how to do that.)

Thus I voted for best times, we could take the best time from each track as in stunt car racer, and add them - lowest total time wins. Times are displayed in the demo loop. This would require to play the WHDLoad version as it saves times on quit. A high density disk could be created for the non-harddisk users, as done with Lotus 2 and Jumping Jack Son.

Just to point out that - although suggestions on how to play the games (especially those we're not so familiar with) are certainly welcome - any votes submitted only count for the games themselves. For instance, we've played Nitro before purely on points. This makes more sense to me as otherwise you're taking several screenshots of the best times (and those screens pass very quickly so it will be cumbersome on a real machine) and having to create a high density ADF to play the WHDLoad version in this case is a hassle which feels unnecessary. It's a lot more admin overall and it's making the game less accessible than necessary.

It's fine for me. I made a suggestion about how to play it because I wasn't sure of how it could work, but I indeed consider I was voting for the game and if the game gets chosen we would quickly discuss (or the admins would) how the game would be played

I never know if I should wait to see what's trending or try to set the trends myself I guess half the fun of voting is about making this decision

It has already been played for points, so I proposed something different for a change.

One week left. Don't forget to vote!

Almost 40 different games have been voted for so far, only one will be played.

Nitro- I wasnt around all those years ago, so I've never played it in the compo. Its a long game, and quite gruelling, as sometimes its best to sacrific a stage by hanging around and collecting fuel and money, which means only elite players would win all races and get maximum points. My feeling with times is we could play the first 'world' - which is maybe 6 stages? But playing the first 5 stages just to get a chance to improve your time on the night course is not fun over three weeks, and the best players will get a similar time on each course, making it less fun. So I suggest we keep the Times idea for the Knockout.

I don't remember it being so long. I also remember I finished it on my 2nd or 3rd attempt. I played it again last year after, oh God more than a dozen of years without ever seeing it, playing casually with friends at home, and just finished it again without any trouble.

Of course, playing for score would be another thing. But the game is pretty easy IMO. Much different from the other racing game from the same guy, All Terrain Race. This one is tough as nails

And I also wasn't around when people played Nitro on the comp.

There are 4 worlds in Nitro, each with 8 races. Every 4th race is a nighttime race.

Oh man, I remember playing the first league round of All Terrain Racing. Loads of fun once you get the hang of the controls but still incredibly tough as you progress. Some of the players here put in world class performances. I'd be more likely to vote for it if I didn't know I'd get my ass handed to me again.

I actually *love* All Terrain Race, but it does require some time with it, because the game is really very non-forgiving.

I could never beat the Mars levels though.
