CD32 arcade stick

I made a CD32 arcade stick last year using the amiarcade board:

I decided last night it need redesigned so I've came up with the following

The design is essentially the same my current button layout just compressed a bit. The start button will be moved to the right hand side of the case. The inner dashed line represents the enclosure on which the top cover will overlap.

Any thoughts on which design looks best. Stick with the more horizontal button layout or make them more vertical. Given the dimension is approximately 250x150mm your hands tend to be at a more acute angle hence my thinking of the bottom one.

It'll be made from 3mm black acrylic this time rather than MDF just so it'll look more finished and be stronger.

The parts used to assemble are the amiarcade board and just an ebay arcade button set.

What components are you using to build this? The stick looks like a Sanwa or Seimitsu.

As for the shape: I'm partial to the Astro City-like layout, which looks like this:

Just using a cheapo ebay kit. The stick is 4 micro switches as up down left right. Cost about £20 but works fine so far. Good thing is the parts match the genuine stuff in terms of sizing so if I feel the need to upgrade it's easy enough but to be honest as is it's fine for me. Handy thing for the ebay kit is you get all the wires for it's usb interface. Just cut them off and solder up to the amiarcade32 and away you go.

The current one works great for beat em ups, in particular the likes of fighten siprit. Shooters like project x and banshee are also great on this.

Edit: this is the ebay kit I used https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zero-Dela...MAAOSwWfda60Br

Ah, I guess they are clones of the real stuff, which doesn't interest me, but thanks for the link.
I'm very interested in the Amiarcade board though!

It's a nice board and is fairly big so lots of space to solder. Perfect for the likes of me and shaky hands lol.

The top design looks like it would be more comfortable. You could print the designs out and see which one feels better though.

I read that the board works with A1200, is there anything that would stop it working with an A500+ or an Amy?

I've tested it and it works fine on A1200. Not sure about A500 but I see so reason why it wouldn't work as a 1 button joystick anyway.

If I get a chance I'll test it out but I still haven't had the time to rebuild my new arcade stick. I've been so busy after moving house earlier this month and 99% of my man cave is still in boxes, am waiting on a builder for my new man cave project. Maybe I should start a new thread showing that lol.

This is very cool! What games do you play with it? It seems like overkill for Body Blows.
