It's not really fair that all discussion about Game Developer's overvaluing their products be stuck in this thread... even though, due to the pricing decided by these game devs, it's where this kicked off again...

Everything moved here, and this thread put back in the News section

Looks like a pretty decent game. They can sit on it and "rotate" if they expect me to pay for it though.

I still like the game, but I think Psytronik just priced it too high this time.

I actually think this game looks pretty cool. The initial scrolling made me feel bleurgh but the new movement makes it seem much better.

And they also developed that system of replay, that you can take over anytime, which makes this game pretty unique. I like it, I like its packaging, but I am not sure if I will buy it.

The digital version will be $6-$7 which is more than reasonable. As the for physical release. Yes its the same price as a playstation/xbox game (my black dawn rebirth ended up a lot more expensive than that) - whether you but it digitally or physically we get the same amount of money. Why is this ? because of the costs at producing the physical copy at such (relatively) small numbers. Floppys being replicated nowadays are $2 a disk, the artist has to be paid for his work, boxes, gifts etc. It all mounts up. You dont buy the physical copy because you want to play it (thats what the digital versions for) - Its for collectors

The market size is also an issue, the c64 market dwarfs the Amiga one. An average c64 game these days sells about 400 copies, whereas the average Amiga game a quarter of that - Black Dawn sold 100 physical copies (tho a second run of 50 is comming) - Now out of those 100 copies Double Sided games made just about nothing, any money earned there was done by digital copies. Jason at Pystronik tells me one of his games costs about a grand in uk to pay for box and artist costs so again it has to sell x amount of copies to make any money whatsoever

I wont make a penny on this one - Although I have got Tim to do the gfx for the New Black Dawn instead, so win win!

i get everyones disapointment at the prices of new games - Include me as one of them!
Its just as someone behind the scene I understand the reason the have to be the price they are. I`d have loved BDR to be $10 cheaper but then everyone would have lost money for a years work instead of breaking even. If we wanted to make money we`d be developing on the pc, but we do it on the Amiga because we love it!

Postage costs on BDR didnt help either. Double Sided Games are moving from Canada to Europe soon so that should reduce them.

Oh and I side note - I dont even own a physical copy of BDR and I made it!

The prices for boxed, physical copies is always justified. It can't be cheap to make those boxes, and what's contained inside the box too.

The digital release price is also fair at those prices, more than fair in fact.

I suppose the developer has to consider if a game really is worth boxing and selling, rotator looks fun, however thst puzznic clone (i can never remember the name) quite simply doesn't, and the fact it's a game from 91/92 that was unreleased is irrelevant, and stating that as a big thing is as though it's being treated like putty squad or a similar AAA Amiga titke. It wouldn't have sold in 1992 unless as shareware i don't think .. Sorry but that's the truth of it. I also wouldn't pay more than £5 for a digital copy, if at all!

Digital version of Rotator shall be 10-15, not 6-7.

That's the point. I started developing a pipe mania clone a few years ago, which i thought looked better. Had i finished it i would never have looked to sell. Again my choice though!
