Memory
I recently bought a 32Mb simm from amigakit.com via ebay. Last night I installed it into my A1200's 1230 accellerator. I believe I have the blizzard 1230 Mk-II - I only know this by comparing what I saw to http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...cgi?HARDID=149 (I bought the amiga including this expansion + there were no manuals for it).
I messed up my HD boot the other day trying to install amitcp (it is requiring a password now..) and as yet I have not removed it from the startup scripts. So I booted from the floppy I was sent with my network (I'm not entirely sure which version of WB is on it). With that my A1200 shows up 16MB fast ram. Should it instantly display the 32mb in workbench? Have I made a mistake during installation? If I was sent a 16MB simm by mistake, would that be adequate for all WHDLoad games? (It only cost £10, and I'm not sure I can be bothered with the hassle of getting a replacement). Thanks in advance! |

I think your blizzard support only 16 MB ram modules. - so you see only 16mb of 32mb module

Okay, shame if that's true.
When I installed the ram (which is 60ns), I removed two simms (presumably 4mb each). I removed them both because I thought if they were slightly slower, they would reduce the overall performance to that level. Would the gains in me putting one of the 4mb simms in the other slot, outweigh the potential loss of memory access speed? Sorry for all the questions, I'm not entirely sure how useful the performance increase of using 60ns is to an amiga which will be used primarily for WHDLoad games and a few things in workbench (including irc). |

16MB fast ram is more than enough for whdload... I used to have 8MB fastram with no probs whatsoever... so don't worry

I have 40 MB fast ram in my Blizzard 1230 Mk-II. Did you remember to change the jumper settings when you installed the new ram?

No, I'm not sure what the jumper settings are. I dont think it listed them on the amiga hardware site.
Is there somewhere I can find out what the correct jumper settings are? Are they on the circuit board? edit: I did just find another link online to what must be a mirror of amiga-hardware.com which displays jumper settings (but the page renders quite strangely).. I assume (based on the table below it) the 7th one down is correct for a 32MB simm in the first slot? http://amigahardware.mariomisic.de/c...cgi?HARDID=149 Last edited by numb; 15 March 2005 at 16:17. |
