Light or Dark?

Guys (Bobredthorp esp..)

I have been thinking about the Menus in use so-far, and Bob has done a great job but...

The DVD is generally dark (The other menus) so I am thinking maybe these bright menus wont fit in!

So Here is an Image with the Brigh and Dark images, select which you prefer in the poll

Bob: I'll talk to you on IRC soon

I think it really depends. If a company logo is particularly dark, a bright background will make it stand out more. Similarly if the logo is very bright, it looks better on a dark background.

Both pictures look great and it just depends which one is easier to read for each logo that you have.

Yeah, has to be the dark ones. The light ones just look washed out rather than light.

You're all miserable introverts, going for dark!

I vote for light. The dark ones look like the brightness is set too low on the TV.

And the light ones look like my old 14 inch monitor before I discarded it because I couldn't go any darker. They just become too light.

I think that compression artifacting would also be more apparent on lighter pictures. At least in the 2 samples it is.

Thats because I have saved them as Jpeg with high compression to get them small enuff to attach!!

there is no artefacting on the real things!!!

The company logo in the middle is the correct brightness...

Without darkening, here are the original source files with the white layer removed, do you think they look better like this?

If they're going to be menu backgrounds? then the bright colours might make any text hard to read...

I personally find reading stuff more enjoyable when being presented on a darker background... but just try out how it looks and then decide which is better. We'll see how it works out...
