Napoleon I. by Magic Soft
I am looking for rare Napoleon I. by Magic Soft.
I have an ADF here, but unfortunately it has a checksum error in one soundfile. |

I'm thinking it might be possible to fix it if the bad block contains data. It could be worth a try - especially as it's rare. |

I cant tell you, if the damaged blocks are filled with zeros, or if valid data is still there. You are the specialist. |

Thanks, mai.
I'm having a look at it with a binary file editor first to see what's there. Well, at least it's a DOS disk. If no used sectors are zeroed out, then it may be possible to fix it. |

Well, there are no corrupted blocks, but plenty of zeroed-out sectors on this disk.
I'll mount the image in emulation tomorrow and narrow it down to the problematic file and sector(s). It always worries me when I see great swathes of zeroed out sectors in TOSEC disk images; it's just not realistic. It's as if these images have been cleaned up so that they compress better. |

This disk image cannot be fixed without some new data.
The SoundFiles/Sound0 file has a checksum error on Disk Block 41. This is Sound0's 262nd data block, which is damaged - probably from offset $4F, and the 263rd and 264th data blocks are zeroed out. The 141524 byte file is intact both before these blocks and beyond, but the adjacent byte sequences are unique on the disk. I haven't checked the other files for integrity; there may be further damage caused by other zeroed-out data blocks in the range of offsets $42000-$4B9FF, $4BC00-$4CFFF, $83200-$833FF, $84200-$859FF, $85E00-$8EFFF, $B1600-$C75FF and $C8200-$C8BFF. My initial concern was to investigate the possibility of fixing the checksum error, and there are some 420 blocks not used. (Zeroed-out data blocks don't, of course, cause checksum errors.) As this thread is a request, here is a full directory listing of the disk's contents: Code:

I have now checked the integrity of all files in the disk image, and the SoundFiles/Sound0 file is the only one damaged.

Could someone upload this one again? I'd like to fix the DBS on HOL, so a broken soundfile doesn't matter
