You could of got a raspberry pi 3b+. It plays c64 games demos and heaps of other platforms like psx dreamcast n64 etc.
And a third of the price of a mini. Many options my friend. |

Also - I think it plays built-in games really well. In comparison to other mini consoles that you can not update, the option for adding your own games is a really advantage, even if it doesn't play some of them correctly. I am satistied, except of the joystick.

Thanks guys for all those great Infos.
I know there are other options to the C64 Mini, but i really liked the idea and the case NOW, i have kind of good News 1) Now that i have the Logitech F710 wireless Joypad, it becomes fun for the firts time to play the Mini C64. The F710 supports the D-Pad and the games feels so much better because of that (you can also switch to analog , if preferrd) Now i can see the true Lag from the C64 Mini emulation and its not that bad. It was the included Joystick that made it so horrible. I cant recommend this Logitech joypad enough, its also the only Joypad that let us use the D-Pad with just a press of a button. Very neat. 2) I got a mail from the developes that gave me hope. It is still a pain but i will try that. Here is the Mail i got : ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Torti, We're sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the performance of THEC64 Mini. However, your comments regarding compatibility does surprise us as that is not the experience that most people are having. There is a large amount of flexibility with the latest firmware, allowing you to specify a number of additional settings that should ensure that most (if not all) C64 programs run without any issues. You can disable the fast loader option from within the File loader to improve compatibility, and you can engage accuratedisk, specify the machine type (NTSC or PAL) and set a 'readonly' status which we know some demos require. All of these can be set using filename flags or CJM files. Please see https://retrogames.biz/support/file-loader/ and https://retrogames.biz/support/setti...iple-programs/ for full details. Regards, Retro Games Ltd. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Making a CJM file should fix most of the incompatibility. Well, i will try that, for sure. What a hassle, but if it works, i am not so sour anymore I will work on the Top 100 CSDB Demos to make them functional on the Mini (maybe you guys help to) I smurf back when i have results. Finally, and its pretty easy if you know how Here is a little taste of it. Isnt that amazing (PS- you dont have to flip the disk , just boot from disk 2 when you like) Pretty sweet, dont you think ? (now i have to rename all the demos , starting with the top 100) Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 01 March 2022 at 19:55. |

Yes, i do Every Demo that i tried worked flawlessly. Just rename the files and BOOOOM, it works. (_AD makes it compatible; for example , like StarWarsDemo_AD.d64) Sure, a diskwapping feature would be neat and the "auto power on" is annoying but other than that i am really happy now The Guy´s are really dedicated to this little thing; so i am pretty optimistic now, things can only improve from here and my wish for a easy 50hz C64 Demo box is now a reality I am such a happy smurf now |

Now there's a happy storybook ending if ever there was one. I hope the C64 Mini becomes a HUGE success. That will just broaden the community further and result in MORE new games, apps and support for our beloved lil 64.

You have to append "_AD" to the filename of demos to ensure they work??? What a joke.

As I understand it, the C64 mini is basically a small computer running Vice 2.4. So it really should have similar levels of compatibility.
I do own one of these and haven't seen compatibility issues yet, though for full disclosure: I haven't actually used it much beyond playing a few built-in and side loaded games. So it is possible compatibility is lower than I think it is. |

What is _AD ? What's exactly does the emu do when filenames are renamed like that?
I can rename my 3000 plus disks with _AD in seconds... |

I am back; after a 2 days C64 Top 100 CSDB Demos Marathon
It was amazingly beautiful and in the Demo, WE ARE ALL CONNECTED i had almost tears in my eyes and i am not ashamed to admit that ;the beauty, creativity, skill and especially the Sid Synphony in the Fairlight Logo part is so emotinal and beautiful that it really touched me I dont want to get to sentimental here, but man, those guys Sorry ....getting kinda back on topic here. The C64Mini (and the Software Packs) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * The GOOD: I tried over 100 Demos now and with the _AD "switch", 99% did work and that is not that bad actually, even Demos that gave CCS64 a hard time. Those "switches" act like Toolypes for example in WHDLOAD or other C64 Emulators - there is nothing bad about that and its really simple. https://retrogames.biz/support/file-loader/ 2) Pretty much all the critism that i had is gone. The Emulation is really good actually and with a propper joypad that allows the use of a D-Pad its really fun. (I recommend the Logitech F710) 3) The C64 Mini Firmware can easily be updated and the feature to play custom software is absolute great THE BAD: (Things to improve imo) 1) The Device powers on every time the TV is switched on - kinda annoying 2) The SPACE button should be usable without using the Virtual Keyboard - HA, try to play Turrican 2 and you will see 3) There is still a little tiny bit of Lag left. (its really really small) 4) The included Joystick is a bad joke, really; and the main reason why people think there is more lag than there actually is. A abomination of a Joystick ! 5) A Button Mapping Feature would be nice and some small things here and there. So there is room to make it really great. MY "SCORE" is B+ With some improvments and future firmware updates i can be even better. * those are just my opinions. Haters gonna hate, Coders gonna code, Lovers gonna love * -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wanted to thank Ransom1122 again for been always so nice & supportive. "Hey there buddy" And as a little thank you, i have made a Demo pack; downloadable in the zone for you Ransom1122 and all those people who loves Demos anyway Special thanks to all those Coders out there who blow us away with there absolute stunning works. I love you guys Torti |

I found out that the "swapdisk trick" will NOT work on most of the multidisk demos.
Really hard is to find uncracked gameimages or the "best cracked" and fastloading versions. I have a starter pack in the Zone. (i hope you dont mind Ransom1122) Please enjoy |
