i'm not sure on your question: there are indeed some exe files around, some custom set in compact hdf files that some guys made for hard disk problematic game: i've not the link for the site, but if you search on google "hoborg" you should find a polish or czech site with them.
but i have to ask you to articulate: the stuff on that cd were pc versions of amiga games wich worked in windows enviroement or simply the whole content of the game for amiga in wich the main program name was simply added of a exe extension like the hoborg' one? consider that as amiga os works different from windows, the extensions of the names are in unmeaningful as the properties of the files concerning stack of memory and means of execution for instance are stored differently. so least that the files are using extensions by mean of some commodity program that bypass the usual way and that force the os to execute them in the same manner, you can rename almost every executable as you want. i know i'm cutting it simple. someone else if you need can give you more insight. |

ok.
so you are on pc. you want to play amiga games. the ones you played were pc games, or pc versions of amiga games. so: 1)download winuae. winuae emulate the amiga hardware machine: amiga had ROM that we can describe as a set of rules for the machine to handle the software. the ROM was revised in the years, so you have a bunch of different roms, called KICKSTARTS. these are required to the machine and to winuae to work BUT are still copyrighted and not available but from Cloanto or by extracting them from a real machine. if you have read the faqs these things are explained there and you have the adresses you need. 2)so you have the kickstart roms. 3)the applications/games the operating system, called Workbench was loaded at each startup by inserting its disks, these too revised during the years and going along with the kickstart. these too still under copyright and available from Cloanto. but the OS was not required to play all the games, these in fact were almost all bootable. BOTH OS and games/applications came on disks wich format is unreadable by modern pcs and so, to be used by winuae, they are required to be transformed in "disk-images", files that are the exact reprodution of the original disk byte by byte and so are all 880Kb long when uncompressed. these are the files that you downloaded by the site you had mentioned and numbered 1 2 3 etc. |

if you have amiga still, in the faqs you are pointed on how to extract the files you requires and on how to transfer them on pc to use them: the Kickstart for first thing and the Workbench and then the other disks.
without kickstart you can't do anything. |

If WinUAE cannot detect your supposedly empty HDD, look for zap.exe or wipe.exe. | fmcpma | support.WinUAE | 5 | 08 August 2006 00:35 |
