The next level...
@Davideo and fingerlickin b...
AH MATE.. Cable turned up today, still exactly the same!! This evening took motherboard out of miggy, re-soldered all the serial port joints! Still nothing, it sends the first file over and is always 45801 which is right, then as it goes to send the next bit (after typing RAM:Setup) it says error reading from COM port. I'm thinking pc conflict on the port now, or def faulty amiga!! Well on the plus side i'll wait for the disk as that has it on already then when i try to transfer a file thats when i'll find out!! Thanks for sending that bud, have you tried it? is it any good if you have?? Thanks to Fingerlickin b will try that as soon as it arrives, thanks all... |

I've used a non standard cable, ie one that Cloanto does not suggest, on my 1000 and it works perfectly fine. I would follow verbatim what it says to do on the website one more time and as others have just said, check, check, and recheck that you did everything right. If it fails to produce results, chances are your serial port could be fried and would need to be replaced.

@Paul
Posted in time to catch last post today. Should be with you tomorrow. I did test it and the program ran ok so hoefully it will on yours. I'm starting to wonder if your port is knackered though At least now you should know one way or the other. Dave G |

@Davideo and crew
MAN... the two disks didn't work! both had read write errors on different sectors. (tried to copy them too, to see if it sorted it)
Thanks for that royal mail postal service, you know they got stepped on 400 times in some sweaty warehouse before they reached my front door! Didn't matter though, i copied the aexplorer file over onto another workbench disk (the Aexplorer file was still ok) after deleting some stuff to make it fit. And still it done all the same things!! And i reinstalled amiga forever on another pc to check. It must be my amiga! So tonight bit the bullet and purchased another motherboard for my 500 oh well, think i'll be getting a newer 1200 or 4000 or something very soon!! Just wanna get it working out of principal now! and i wanna keep my 500 from back in the day in working order so i can say thats mine from 1988! - even though the main bit will be someoone elses from 1988 LOL!! DOH!!! Thanks dudes |

Hey Paul, this may seem like a stupid question...but have you registered AE on your PC?
It will only transfer 1kb of data if you have not registered it. PZ. |

Right-click the AE icon on your PC desktop & there should be an option to register.

Nah, no register option , i had to use my serial code just to install the software and i cannot find register in the options anywhere.
It seems it has already done it?!! Does it send info to the net if a connection if found secretly? If not can anyone tell me where it is on 2007 Amiga explorer? I can see the bit on the website which if you have the demo one then right click go into properties to use the register tab but isn't there. Maybe the newer versions are already done when you enter the code at the install program?? Please tell me if i'm being a D*CK! Thanks y'all |

Maybe try removing AE from your PC (don't forget to clean your registry too), then download the demo, install & then register it with your legitimate key?
When I purchased AE all I got was a receipt & the key...had to download the demo & register it that way...no other option was given. PZ. |

Still waiting for motherboard to turn up, will post back to let you know of the results.
Once again thanks all you guys, I have tried all your suggestions they are all very good ideas. Just a slight update, I misread the serial port diagram I was looking at (I was mega tired and it was late), I was actually was looking at a Amiga 1000 one which is different believe it or not? Anyway on the same page was a A500 one, so checked the serial port again with a multimeter and sure enough the pin which should have +12V coming out of it had 2V max, don't know if that's what it should be until data is transfered? but hey... motherboard is worth a try. (they aren't much 2nd hand nowadays) You lot think i'm mad don't cha... "Buy a 1200 I can hear you cry", I will it's just principal now!! (It's personal!) Don't know if i dream't it but why is it I have some slight memory of seeing a spark come from the serial port when i was younger, and me saying..."Ha! when the F*ck am i gonna use a .....what's that say...serial port for, anytime in my life anyhooo LOL" Or is it I'm thinking about all this too much and I'm inverting scenarios for how it broke, or just wishing that's the problem! Thanks. |

You could have blown a fuse but that doesn't explain why some of the data is sent and not all of it My offer of a set up still stands Have you tried the emulation on a PC? It's very good and allows you to have any Miggy you want all for the same price Dave G |

This reminds me a lot of what happened last night with my A2000.
Check the fuses near your serial port for continuity...that may very well be the problem! PZ. |

Guys!
After all that it was my motherboard! Don't know which part at this point, but IT WORKS!! It now sends the aexplorer files over, I haven't even figured out how to send files over yet, YEAH IT WORKS!!! I cannot see the floppy drive, how does that appear on aexplorer or do you just send to ram disk, and then drag over to the floppy the same as the setup file?? WOOOO HOOOOOO Thanks for all your help, hope this post gives some people out there some good examples of how to get this to work, as it was painfull getting there! I'M F*CKING finally there!! - even though i have probably spent £30 overall to get there! (what's £30 when it makes you happy!) Thanks to everyone. Peace. |

@Paul
Pleased to hear you got there in the end I'm not sure how to transfer stuff on a floppy system - I guess it would depend on what you're trying to copy over to the Miggy. Dave G |
