Just tried this and I can confirm that it does work

The OP's pic wasn't too good, so heres one that's a little clearer..

Attachment 16821

I understand that different cards may vary.

Could someone share some light on this hack?

I'm not good with electronics, so I had a pal of mine solder this (well, the simpler version with just connecting the legs on the transistors) on my adapter. It works like a charm now. However, pal was baffled as to why it wouldn't work in the first place and how this fixes it. Is it the card perhaps that is behaving badly? Or is there some non-obvious error in the design of the adapter?

From post #15 (by Zetr0):

Quote:
...some cheap CF card adapters do not report activity back up the IDE chain, this means that your Hard disk light wont flash on the Amiga.

By repairing this signal the Mod allows the device to report activity to the IDE, hence flashing IDE LED on the Amiga

To ask a silly question...

Is it possible to buy a CF to IDE Adapter which doesn't require the wire to be added for the LED to work?

Also, will any old IDE 2.5' to CF Adapter off eBay work with an Amiga 1200?

For example, what about this one?.

Thanks

The adapter I bought didnt need this hack. The 1200 HDD activity light works like it should. This is the one I got: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10310

The one off ebay is the same as the one posted above by THB. I bet the ebay seller just dropships from DX....

You can buy from DX in confidence, I spend about a grand a month with them without any issues.

DX is great, they sometimes have a delay in sending things out like 1 to 2 weeks.

Which wire? The reason I got my adapter was because you shouldn't need to mod it for the LED to work

This Mod, but i had to solder the wire on the other side of the LED not as is the picture. If i was you id try the above first, if that don't work then try the other end of the led as i had to.

Well I can't solder for s*it so I brought one from DealExtreme and as advised on this thread it lights up the HD LED now and without any mods

It looks identical to the one I brought of eBay (the one that didn't activate the LED), how weird is that

With this adapter its LED and Amiga LED work without modification! ... and no 2,5" cable is required to link it to Amiga IDE interface!

Nice one fc, however these direct to mobo CF adapters are not physically compatible with the Indivision AGA SD/FF. Is there a version of it with MALE 44 pin connector?
