A1200 + Typhoon 1230 MKII
Hi all, needing a bit of help if possible.
I Have an Amiga 1200 with a Typhoon 1230 MKII accelerator with a 16Mb SIMM Installed, however, every now and then when powering the miggy up, i get a yellow screen and the power led flashes. I'm hoping the card is ok and just needs reseated now and then as it does seem to sit a tiny bit angled but i could be wrong. Do any of you know of any problems with these cards at all or is it just a case of getting it to fit better? I was also wondering if any of you know where i can purchase an FPU for it and what the highest FPU is it would take. Many thanks in advance. |

It could be a dry solder joint somewhere that could need re-flowing?
Unless your card supports a 2nd crystal I'd imagine you are limited to your CPU speed - 40/50Mhz. You'll pay big bucks for a highspeed 68882 on eBay I can tell you that much. |

Hi There & Welcome to EAB
I have the same card in one of my A1200's and you are right it does fit at a slight angle. If you are sure that the card is seated fully it may be worth cleaning the Motherboard contacts & inspecting the solder joints on the card too for any broken joints. My card is ultra stable I have to be fair & it is clocked at 40MHz I also have a 40MHZ FPU installed, Make sure that the jumper is set for 2K refresh rate for 16MB simm & if problems persist try a different simm 60n or 70n Does the A1200 fail or crash during use? Let us Know TC |

Hi again and thanks for the fast response, didn't expect it to be that quick
Yeah, got the jumpers set for 2k refresh, 32Mb (Card has choice of 32/64Mb) and SCSI termintaion is on. Has crashed before whilst in workbench, not at a particular moment though, just random times. Usually after it does this is when i get the yellow screen up. Tried it with a 4Mb SIMM too just in case, as well as no memory at all but still happens. That's why i thought i may have to cut into the L shaped support on the case just to straighten the card up a bit. Will also check the solder points etc. for dry joins, dodgy traces. Something fun to do for tonite Ill let you know how i get on and report back soon. Again, cheers for the replies, thats why i love the Amiga community, always people willing to help out. |

Ok, just an update for you all that responded (bit late but real life beckons first), i checked for bad solder points, traces, dodgy components, old age in general, but everything that side is hunky dory. Then i figured (bugger it) to chop a quart of that L shaped support to allow the card to seat at a bit of a better angle it now works fine.
Not saying this will work for everyone, try at your own risk (all usual legalities here etc, etc.). May just be it didn;t make a 100% contact before this due to angle, age, neglect Thanks for all your help though my amipeers, you are the people that helped me get my Amiga up and running and back into the Amiga scene once again. |

So the connection pins are a bit worn. Absolutely normal in a 20 years old hardware.
